This is the short film of the project titled PAKMMA Fighting Alliance – Another Kind of Pakistan that you can find here. The funding for that project have been cancelled and will resume in the near future. We’ve set a budget of 1000$ that will fund a short film that will feature the first PAKMMA Fighting Alliance event, set to take place in Lahore. The short film will cover the same elements as the original feature film but with the focus on Lahore.
Pakistani MMA Fighter returns back to Pakistan after fighting in Jakarta at ONEFC 10 as the underdog against Brazilian No-Gi Champion Bruno Pucci. He returns to the MMA scene he created and gets to work immediately on his brainchild - PAKMMA FIghting Alliance.
This is a project being done by Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan, better known as PAKMMA. Do a quick google search, and you'll get an idea about what PAKMMA is and who Bashir Ahmad, the founder, is.
But, if you don't want to do the google search, or need more information to even be motivated to search us, here who we are in a nutshell:
Bashir Ahmad is a Pakistani- American who was born in Pakistan but was raised in the USA as an American citizen. He was always one to think outside the box and live life to the beat of his own drum, and that's what led him to decide to move to Pakistan and promote the sport of MMA. Martial Arts had given him so much in his own life that he felt it could do a lot for youth of Pakistan; he felt that "it was just a calling from my heart that spoke to me, that making the decision to move to Pakistan would ultimately bring a lot of positivity to people". Through handwork, patience and little bit of luck, he has been successful far sooner than anyone could have imagined.
PAKMMA is the organization started by Bashir to promote the sport of MMA in the country. It has evolved from being just a website to being a representation and symbol of a subculture for Pakistani youth who are banding together over fight nights in basements and gyms around the country. Inch by inch, day by day this sub-culture that has brought together the rich and the poor with no distinction, is creeping into the mainstream.
Now we could write on forever or you could just quickly watch this video and get caught up with everything!
About the Film
This film is going to feature two things, that an average person wouldn't even imagine being in the same sentence, “Mixed Martial Arts” and “Pakistan”. Pakistan being the country that it is, with constant bombings, suicide attacks, abductions you name it, MMA is the last thing one would imagine being there, but MMA has arrived and is growing strong. This movie is going to show the differet side of Pakistan, told by Pakistanis through the lens of PAKMMA, with MMA serving as your tour guide. The short film will focus on Lahore, where the inaugural event of the travelling MMA show called, PAKMMA Fighting Alliance is to take place.
It'll cover how with the constant state of instability and uncertainty the crew is going to setup and execute a successful MMA promotion. As a 3rd world country, Pakistan poses challenges that most 1st world countries have no concept of, be it trivial matters like tardiness, plain lack of professionalism, or extreme conditions such as bombings and kidnappings and random acts of public violence. The viewers will get to see how the team faces and deals with all those challenges as well as what it takes to setup and run a promotion in Pakistan.
It is also going to show how the sport of MMA has become a factor in breaking the social barriers in Pakistan, that brings people from all walks of life together to compete, watch and support the sport that has taken the world by storm. From the hardworking farmer that has never seen the outside of his village, to the rich kid whose been all over the world, you’ll get to see both of these worlds mix together under the MMA banner and show that Pakistanis aren’t just religious extremists that cringe everytime someone mentions America, that they are normal people that try and lead a normal life amidst all the chaos. This film is going to cater to everyone, MMA fans, people who enjoy documentaries or people who just enjoy a feel good movie without the glitz and glamour added by Hollywood.
An ancient city, only 30 some kilometers from India, Lahore is Delhi's sister city and the heart of Pakistan's culture. Fashion, music and arts are centered in the largest city of the most populous province - The Punjab. This is the center of the MMA scene of Pakistan and where Bashir Ahmad is based. A hotbed of traditional Kushti wrestling, combat sports have a long history of patronage by the Mughal nobility in this city - now it's YOUR turn! Lahore holds the most active fighters of any other city and the most promotions. The tour will begin and end here.

We've created some rewards that we hope you can remember and cherish for a long time to come! We also hope that with your support, this movie takes off and people inquire about where you got your stuff!
Other rewards we have created to give a personal touch to thank you for your support. The footage from these thank youd will be included in the bonus section of the"Special Edition" DVD.
A Final Thank You!
We want to thank you for the taking the time out to look over our kickstarter project. We promise to put the same level of determination and passion into this project that went into creating an MMA scene from scratch. In fact, this will be a much easier task because we have already created the momentum and the underlying infrastructure.
And a final thank you to kickstarter for providing us with the platform to give us a fighting chance. PAKMMA probably runs on a monthly budget, less than what most of you reading this make in a week, some of you maybe a day! We're not movie stars, we're normal people struggling to make a dream, a vision come alive. A vision that we hope can uplift not only our being but also the lives of so many others in Pakistan. If this movie inspires even a few hundred people to change their lives for the better, to appreciate and be grateful for what they have, it's a success. If this movie helps bridge some of the gap and any bad blood or mistrust between east and west, it's more than I could have hoped for. Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving this project a chance!
Risks and challenges
Pakistan carries unique risks and challenges. In fact that is going to be part of the movie, and the unpredictability of Pakistan is what will make the movie interesting. Furthermore, what we are trying to show is that DESPITE unpredictability, life goes on and people get things done.
But some examples of what could cause delays - stuff breaking down to include generators and trucks (although that is so expected and so regular that it's pretty much factored into our planning). Another issue could be red tape or needing to give bribes to hold an event in a certain place, once again that has been factored into the misc. factor. But as we've said before, this unpredictability is something we're trying to capture!
As to how we're qualified to challenge any risks, the first thing I must say, is that I and my team are determined. Now, it is easy to say, but you simply need to look at what we have accomplished over the years, when people said it was not possible. I have a never give up attitude and the sport of MMA and the positive changes it can bring to peoples lives in Pakistan is my life's work. There is no giving up, there is no turning back. So, whatever challenges that are faced, we will overcome them.
That being said, whenever there is any problem, you'll know about it! We will be keeping a blog, emailing our backers and our fanpages are always very active.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
