About this project
We're hoping that, with your help, we can make a second season of Board with Life a reality. We learned a lot from the first season and we're confident the second season will be funnier, higher quality, and have more of what you want, but we need you for it to happen.
If we reach our goal, there will be another five-episode season of Board with Life. With push goals, there may be even more!
Giving any amount is appreciated, but we understand if you can't monetarily donate. Tweeting about us or posting about us on Board Game Geek and Facebook is also incredibly helpful to our campaign.
We put the fun stuff like push goals near the top, but there is a ton of information about who we are, what we do and why we need your help if you scroll farther down the page. You know... if you're into that sort of thing.
The board game community's support over the past year has been amazing. We hope that with your help, we can blow it up for our second season!
Board with Life is a comedy web series following the ins and outs of a weekly game night. Board with Life isn't just jokes about board games though, it helps normalize them in a fun way. Where other sitcoms center around a bar or diner, ours takes place around the game table.
We love games, and when you look around geek culture, there is quality narrative content out there for just about every other hobby, but board games are underserved and we've decided to change that.
But not JUST that, because Board with Life also does board game-related news, comedy sketches, and interviews. We want to make ALL of the hobby content better. All of it.
You can watch the trailer for Season 01 below or the whole stinkin' series here.
"Um, how does this even happen? I literally can't wrap my mind around how something so funny and legitimately produced exists for our small hobby." -Colby Dauch, owner & chief game designer of Plaid Hat Games
"Board with Life is a brilliant show that does such a sterling job of showing how much fun board gaming is, and there's nothing else like it out there. These guys have humor, character, gaming nous, and also my children. Yes, they have my children somewhere, so please send them money now. I mean, this is serious. I didn't even know that I had any children." - Paul Dean, nudist at Shut Up & Sit Down
"It'd be a shame if season two doesn't happen. The Board with Life team understands board game culture, and their videos are hilarious. My girlfriend and I look forward to each one." -Dan "Shoe" Hsu, editor-in-chief of GamesBeat
"Board with Life is an outrageous series made by gamers who play the games we play and share the same passions we have for the tabletop hobby. These are exactly the kind of maniacs I want making the media that represents our of little slice of Geekdom." - Rodney Smith, teacher at Watch It Played
"What Board with Life has done in such a short period of time is amazing! The show and everything on their channel is hilarious!" - Joel Eddy, board game critic at Drive Thru Review
"The BwL crew is doing what TableTop did in 2012: bringing the real world of board gaming into the spotlight to show that it's not just for kids or basement dwellers." - Tiffany Ralph, board game critic at Spooning Meeples/ TheOneTar
"Board With Life is @#$%*ing hilarious... and I know @#$%*ing." - Tory Niemann, designer of Alien Frontiers
"Board With Life is more fun and adventurous than being smothered with chloroform at a sketchy midwest carnival!" - Patrick Nickell, owner of Crash Games
"Board with Life serves as a great introduction to the inherent social-ness of board gaming: the games are a conduit for fun times with good people -- or in the case of the BwL crew, not-so-good people. Watching the show could be just as effective of a "gateway" as Settlers Of Catan or Ticket To Ride." - Adam McIver, designer of Coin Age
"Run by people who are obviously highly immersed in the hobby and want to show that through their videos, this webseries still manages to make board games look interesting, funny, and something the viewer wants to do. (With a different gaming group, we can only hope!)" - Tom Vasel, The Dice Tower
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before, but Kickstarter is not a store. Still, we did our best to come up with some cool and fun ways to give you value for your donations, because we truly appreciate your participation.
Check out the pledge tiers on the right. We have a lot of really cool gifts not limited to but including:
- A Board with Life-themed microgame by the designers of Coin Age and Easy Breezy Travel Agency!
- Exclusive access to comedy sketches you won't find on our channel.
- Board with Life T-shirts!
- DVDs and Blu-Rays with custom cover art from John Kovalic illustrator of Munchkin, Apples to Apples, and The Dork Tower!
There are even opportunities for walk-on roles on the show, so you can come to set, see how we make an episode, and become a part of the action!
Just in time for the final push, legendary artist John Kovalic (Dork Tower, Munchkin, Apples to Apples) gave us a preview of some rough sketches for our DVD/Blu Ray covers! Check out Chris and Casey and remember you can add additional DVDs or BluRays to your pledge!
Add-Ons are a way to add additional funds to your pledge for additional gifts. Once the project is funded, we will send out surveys to determine what add-ons you've requested. You can add onto any tier that is getting shipped ($40 or higher) to receive exactly what you want.
Moonrat Media started as a small group of friends in Texas who enjoy making no-budget indie movies and playing board games. On any given weekend, you’ll find us either doing one or the other. We decided (after getting some film festivals under our belts) to pool our resources and backgrounds and give a comedic web series a try -- something people would actually see.
It would be embarrassing to tell you how long it took us to realize that we should make it about our favorite hobby (one rejected idea was a show about Casey dating his dog), but thankfully when we did think of it, we immediately knew we were on the right track.
We learned a lot making season one. We learned what does and doesn’t work, we got better at writing jokes and we got more efficient at making stuff that looks and sounds more expensive than it really is. Still, at a certain point, the returns from long nights and cutting corners start to diminish….
Each person involved with the show works full-time “in the industry,” and we have high expectations from ourselves and our productions. We want board games to have the same quality content that other hobbies get. The first season was made almost entirely from pulling favors and sleepless nights. While making the show was some of the most fun any of us have had in our lives, it was exhausting work that didn’t just drain our bank accounts but personal and working relationships, too.
If we can reach our goal, we won’t just be able to continue the series, but we’ll be able to do it faster, cheaper, and easier while also improving the quality all around. This means, less stress for us and more content for you.
As people who work in production, we know exactly what we need to not only make the show better but to make more of it faster. With more and better sound gear and lighting, we’ll have less downtime on set. If we can get the funds, another camera would nearly double our efficiency on set. Beyond that, it’s plane tickets for actors and shoring up weaknesses in our production that eat up time and energy when we would rather be doing the creative part and making the show funnier.
Writing has already started on the second season, and hopefully you can trust us when we say it is easily going to have WAY more laughs. Not only that but it’s also going to have a stronger focus on board games while still remaining accessible to outsiders.
Please consider being a part of making Board with Life bigger, better and funnier by pledging today.

Risks and challenges
Film production is a fickle beast that always has unexpected twists and turns. An actor could have to move away, equipment could malfunction or break, shooting might have to be delayed for weather. No matter how much one prepares, there are always challenges.
We have been making films and web content together as a team for almost a decade now, and are very used to adapting and overcoming challenges. It is possible that the delivery of the show could be delayed if something unforeseen were to occur, but we promise we will stay in close contact with our backers every step of the way with any difficulties the show encounters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
