About this project
What started out as a quest to get in shape ended up as an adventure trying to keep my earbuds from falling out every couple of feet.
I thought that I just had bad luck or misshaped ears but it turned out that everyone I asked had the same issue. There were a few options, buy some expensive over the ear headphones or get a pair of earbuds designed for running to use when working out. Why not make a product that attached to the earbuds you already owned and was easy to remove when not in use.
So instead of hitting the streets, I hit the couch determined to come up with a simple design. With Gods help and the help of several people much smarter than I am budGrips was born.
budGrips will fit any earbud and keeps them where you want them, in your ears.
You will take your regular earbuds and place them inside the budGrip. The budGrip then fits over the ear. The earbuds are held in place as you run, bike, skate, jump, walk, or just sit still. You will now be able to move without having your earbuds fallou
Risks and challenges
I would love to tell a story full of risks taken and challenges that I have had to overcome but truth be told it has been a smooth ride.
I took the drawing shown above to Kui Co Inc, a company that manufacturers all sorts of plastic component using injection molds.
The owner of the company expressed interest in the design and agreed to have his engineers complete a CAD drawing and print a pair to test on his 3D printer. The first prototypes worked amazing. We tried a few different materials but agreed that the first set (pictured above) would be the one we would move forward with.
The final step before we are ready for full production is the building of the injection molds. Kui Co in San Clemente will be handling the molds and production. We will be up and running early May. To start we will be able to manufacture up to 20 pairs every 15 seconds.
With 30,000,000 I pods being sold every year, there are a lot of earbuds out there that as we speak are falling out of the ear. Lets solve the problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
