Smart Radiation Detector

We are going to manufacture and sell the Smart Radiation Detector connected with iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad via microphone input, at a low price less than fifty dollars by using cheap PIN Photo-diode instead of expensive Geiger-Muller Tube to detect beta and gamma radiation. The actual electronic circuit is so simply it fits inside a match box or a FRISK mint-box, except battery. The applications for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad is available in App Store. The Lite-version is free and the Pro-version is $5.

Funds

Early lot 1000+ production is possible, if we can get Kickstarter's $4375+ support as the initial cost of circuit development and calibration testing.

* We recommend that you should purchase a FRISK (Dutch mint) because the device was designed to be right fit for it, unless you can buy it in your area.

Project

We are international, volunteer team of engineers, designers and scientists. We believe that everyone – children, students, mothers, senior citizens, anyone – has the right to know the correct radiation level especially in and around nuclear power plants. Information regarding radiation should be readily available, just like the temperature outside or the weather.

Specifications

Sensor: PIN photo diode x8 (reverse biased and shielded)

Detectable radiations: Beta and Gamma radiation

Sensitivity: 0.5uSv/h -> 124cpm  (without beta radiation shield)

Software features: CPM, uSv/h (currently under development) and Oscilloscope

Dimensions: about W55mm x H28mm x D8mm (except case, battery, DC line and phone plug)

Power consumption: about 1mA

Battery: 006P/9V (outside of the case)
