ABOUT THIS PROJECT
We've wanted to work together on a writing project since we first met, but we waited for the perfect opportunity. This came in early 2013 when we had both just released heavy literary novels and wanted to have some fun with writing pop fiction. Thus, the idea for a retro pulp double-book was born.
The books pull from a variety of influences, including pop culture, comic books, and grindhouse cinema. These stories are exciting and enjoyable! We know you'll have as much fun reading them as we had writing them.
We've conceptualized the book to resemble an old dime-store pulp "flip book," with two retro covers by artist Diego Galindo and designer Tim Anderson. After reading one story, you can turn the book over to read the next. This is the same format by which Junkie by William S. Burroughs was first released.
Ryan Pierce wakes alone and dazed, in an abandoned facility once used to imprison the world's most bloodthirsty killers: vampires. He must travel alone for hundreds of miles through vampire-infested territory in order to reunite with his friend and his lover. Tabula Rasa is a gritty tale of survival, packed with humor, action, and emotional resonance.
Assassin Theta Butterfly goes deep undercover in a remote space prison in a life or death attempt to locate her missing twin sister. As a prisoner, she has to confront a gang of ferocious inmates lead by Honey Bee, a black bombshell from the dark side of the moon. Theta must find the will to live as she is subjected to livid abuse at the hands of the warden, the infamous Dark Mother. Caged ... tortured ... Theta Butterfly cuts through all obstacles to find out the horrific secrets of Deep Penitentiary 6.
While we have worked with other publishers before, we've decided to put out Tabula Rasa and Deep Penitentiary 6 under our own banner, Red Forest. Releasing it this way not only ensures that we have complete conceptual control over the book, it will also allow us to do some exciting things with our properties in the future.
This also means that we have the burden of paying for things our publisher would normally manage like editing, art, and printing. We've set the Kickstarter goal low to just cover our initial printing costs. Anything over and above will go toward paying back the investment we have already made in the project. If this Kickstarter does really well, it will allow us to take our characters into other mediums.

Releasing the book on our own means that we have the freedom to expand the stories and characters in other exciting ways. If we hit $3,000, all backers at the twenty dollar level and above will receive a really cool bonus item. As awesome as the book is, this surprise reward is potentially more thrilling!
If you are fan of our previous books or are new and digging this concept, we ask that you please support us by pledging and sharing this Kickstarter on your social media of choice! We can't do this without you!
Risks and challenges
There are minimal risks associated with this project. The stories have been written, professionally edited, and been graced with excellent cover art. The only thing that remains is printing. The goal has been set to cover initial printing costs. Bottom line: if we meet the goal, you'll get the book! Time estimates may vary due to unexpected production/printing delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
