After years of performing in different groups and venturing out on a solo career in recent years, I am now more than ready to produce my first solo album. To my aid I have an encouraging support team in my native Finland who will help me make this a reality. It is time to launch a Kickstarter Project which will get us started and which will surely cover the most of the production: expensive costs of arranging, producing, rehearsing, recording, a studio rental, mixing (not to mention international traveling) and all else that helps us to get closer to completing this labor of love. YOU can be part of this process and help me bring these songs forth. Please, know that this is an "ALL OR NOTHING" fundraiser! If I don't raise the whole amount ($10,000) I will not get anything. There's a lot at stake!
Meet My Fantastic Team
Well, this is me:
Take a look at a version of the song "Road" that will be one of the songs on the album:
This is Ape:
Producer, multi-intrumentalist and professor at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Ape has over 20 years in the music business and he's encouraged me to record my songs as he believes they deserve to be heard. What he says about the project:
"Paula J has a remarkable quality in her voice, she writes beautiful melodies and her lyrics are deeply touching and full of soulfulness. Upcoming CD is going to be great!"
And then, meet Jaska:
Jaska Lukkarinen and I go way back since the days he was in New York studying at the Manhattan School of Music. We have been good friends ever since. Jaska now lives back home in Helsinki winning numerous awards and traveling around the world with various groups. I am honored to have Jaska be so excited about this project and offering his exceptional skills as a drummer and collaborator. His playing will make my music crackle and pop! This is what he says:
"Paula Jaakkola's new music is an interesting combination of old and new pop, mixed with something I would call Finnish. Her music is very beautiful and simple. I'm really glad to be part of this project and happy that these tunes (that have been nurtured like a baby) now get a chance to be recorded, played and go out to people to listen to!"
The Project Details
Your contribution to this $10,000 project will allow me to:
1) Travel to Finland this December 2012 for one week; work with Ape and Jaska to arrange songs, rehearse with additional musicians and lay out basic tracks in a recording studio.
2) Continue working long-distance online with Ape and Jaska after the initial one week session outlined above.
3) Have Ape add instrumental layers to the basic tracks for me to sing the final vocal tracks.
4) Have editing, mixing and mastering done.
5) Apply grants within the vital grant system in Finland for possible additional funding for post production that include packaging, design and duplication.
If you were to back this project, you will receive something valuable in return. Whether it be a signed album, private concert or Finnish lessons and a home cooked meal, it will all come from the bottom of my heart. Please check the rewards that I have listed on the right.
Come and Listen to the Songs Live
Welcome to my Kickstarter concert in NYC! The theme is Finnish spirit (or Finnish "sisu" as one might say) – I will throw some Finnish songs in the mix. Marvelous Saku Nousiainen on bass and fabulous Stephen Purcell on drums.
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge in completing an album is to work efficiently within a reasonable deadline and most importantly, a budget that makes all things possible. There is plenty of talent and persistence involved but making an album can lead to unforeseen expenses, however we are aware of liabilities and are taking every precaution to prevent possible issues. Nothing will ever materialize unless one has a clear vision and proactive means to achieve the goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
