What is JORTSFEST?
JORTSFEST is an annual DIY music and arts festival in Atlanta, Georgia whose motto is “always free, always all ages, always accessible.” The festival was conceived as a way to bring various music scenes together to bid farewell to summer by celebrating everyone’s favorite piece of summer attire: cutoff JORTS!
Since its inception in 2013 at Under the Couch on the campus of Georgia Tech, the festival has garnered an average of 250 attendees annually and played host to over 30 bands, including local and national acts. The festival has maintained its motto by holding the event in an ADA and transit accessible venue that is all ages and by not charging patrons admission fees or artists and organizations tabling fees. This intentional inclusivity has fostered conversation and collaboration by attendees and resulted in the formation of new bands.
This year JORTSFEST is taking direct action to promote and support the establishment of low cost, all ages, physically accessible performance spaces in Atlanta. JORTSFEST 2016 is scheduled to take place on Saturday August 20 at the Mammal Gallery in South Downtown to accommodate more attendees and more tabling spots.
How can I help?
JORTSFEST is seeking support in raising $3,000 to cover venue production costs, pay performers, and purchase a Roll-a-Ramp portable ramp that will be stored at Mammal Gallery and be made available to local performance spaces that want to make their spaces and stages accessible to patrons and performers with disabilities.
What do I get in return?
If you contribute to the JORTSFEST 2016 Kickstarter, there are some really awesome rewards from previous JORTSFEST performers, local artists, and so much more.

Risks and challenges
JORTSFEST organizers foresee very few challenges once this project is funded. There is already a hold on Mammal Gallery so an indoor venue is secured and weather is not of great concern. Over 50 musicians have applied to perform at JORTSFEST. The Roll-a-Ramp portable ramp has a 6-8 week lead time so 10 weeks were allotted between the end of the Kickstarter campaign (June 11, 2016) and JORTSFEST 2016 (August 20, 2016) to ensure on-time delivery.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
