Meet Brandon - Founder of the Black Daddies Club
Seeing an opportunity, making it happen, and creating a new space for your community in the process – it’s the story of all of our game-changers, and a story Brandon Hay exemplifies (on top of just being one of coolest guys around.)
In 2007, Brandon founded Black Daddies Club (BDC) in response to the lack of forums and spaces for Black men to discuss parenting issues as well as issues facing the Black community as a whole. From barbershops to community picnics, the BDC has brought Black fathers from across the city together.
BDC recently embarked on a new chapter, spearheading Toronto’s first participatory action research project looking at capturing the voices of Black fathers in Toronto. Check out the teaser trailer here.
Brandon has been recognized for his work in the community by winning the African Canadian Achievement awards of Excellence (ACAA) for parenting in 2011 and the Black Business & Professional association (BBPA)- Distinguished Man of Honor Award in 2010. Brandon has been profiled by CTV, City TV, Global TV,TED X Toronto, CBC Radio and Television, CFRB 1010,the Globe and Mail, Toronto Sun, Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Sway Magazine, Urbanology Magazine and others, bringing the voice of black fathers into the spotlight.
Our last game-changer video, Brandon had a some thoughts on INSIGHT and a big thanks for you!
