You've never seen an Arduino™ compatible like this. With a built-in OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode Display) you can see what your Arduino is thinking without having to connect it to your computer. 

No more cryptic "Hello World" LED blink sequences or shoehorning oversized displays onto your tiny Arduino™. Development is much easier when you can see what's going on.

             

In addition to the built-in tutorials, we've also built a cross platform course that runs on iPad, Microsoft Surface and modern Web Browsers on Windows, Mac and Linux

The course takes you step by step through building a 11 different circuits including:

  • Blinking LEDs and creating different colors on an RGB LED.
  • Getting readings from a potentiometer (a fancy name for a knob). 
  • Taking the input from a push button.
  • Sensing Temperature and Light
  • Controlling actuators relays, motors & servos
  • Making sound

The interactive course is included within the "Learning Kit" and "Educators Kit" rewards tier.

FLEXIBLE POWER OPTIONS

The MicroView can be powered from a Coin Cell Battery, AA or AAA Batteries, USB Power, 9V Square Batteries and 12V Car Batteries and beyond!

Note: 6-16VDC is the manufacturer's recommendation for a stable 5V 16Mhz operation.  Voltages below 6VDC are for hackers that wish to drive the ATmega328P and LDO beyond the datasheet's limit.

We've got real working prototypes, (everything you've seen in the video was real, no CGI) and we're ready to take the next step.

By raising $25,000 on Kickstarter we will be able to do a large first production run. By doing a big run we'll be able to get the cost of the MicroView down to $45 (including worldwide shipping). 

Lowering the price of the MicroView is important to us because we want the MicroView to be accessible to artists, designers, educators, inventors/makers, engineers, and anyone else regardless of income.

Kickstarter is more than about selling a product - it's a journey. We want to invite all of you to be a part of the journey of creating a whole new world where anyone can learn the magic of making things with Arduino™!

  • JP Liew. CTO of Geek Ammo and the electronics engineer and creator of the MicroView. JP has previously lent his electronics expertise to Ninja Blocks, Durex Fundawear and the Foxtel Alert Shirt.

For manufacturing and shipping the MicroView at scale we are collaborating with the amazing team at SparkFun. We've worked with SparkFun for the past 6 years to distribute their open source hardware throughout the world, so when it came to looking for a partner to manufacture the MicroView, SparkFun was the logical choice! 

SparkFun also have a proven track record,  they manufactured and shipped over 11,000 units on time for the Makey Makey Kickstarter project!

The products SparkFun make are safe, and environmentally responsible (RoHS compliant).

The bulk of SparkFun's products are manufactured in the USA (Boulder, Colorado) with US workers who are paid a generous wage with benefits. We've gone out of our way to make sure the MicroView isn't being made in a sweatshop!

What's our manufacturing timeline?

We've been working on the MicroView for 6 months now.

We know from our experience with Ninja Blocks that getting the injection moulding done is going to be the bulk of the manufacturing timeline. There can be up to three iterations required to get the mould "just right". 

Whilst the enclosure of the MicroView demoed looks like a finished injection moulded piece, it actually is a solid piece of plastic that has been milled down in a CNC machine and polished by hand for eight hours!

The MicroView is being made and will ship from the USA in Boulder, Colorado.

We've built the cost of shipping into the price of the Kickstarter Rewards Tiers. As with all Kickstarter Projects, this price does not include the customs fees, duties and/or taxes you might incur when importing products into your state or country. We cannot pay these fees for you. For obvious reasons we are not allowed ship to Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, the Moon, and Middle Earth.

Risks and challenges

Our team has already shipped products on Kickstarter and from our experience the biggest potential obstacles we'll face centre on production and logistics.

To minimize these risks we are collaborating with the amazing team at SparkFun Electronics who have proven experience in providing manufacturing and logistics to other Kickstarter Projects. Their latest collaboration, the Makey Makey, was manufactured and shipped on time to over 11,000 backers!

To make things extra safe we're limiting our initial run to only 5000 units.

  • KickStarter by default does not support multiple pledges, many projects workaround this limitation by asking backers to increase the amount and manually determine how many multiples should be shipped.

    We will not be doing this as we have arranged an automated way to pass the pledges to our manufacturers (SparkFun) and the manual pledge workaround would be a recipe for tears!

    As SparkFun will be handling the logistics of the MicroView, we'll be providing them with your order and contact details for shipping. SparkFun will provide these details to their shipping providers (E.g. FEDEX, UPS, USPS etc) as required.
