I have an idea to change the way music videos are made, namely with faster turnaround productions that generates more reward to the artist and extra entertainment for the viewers. With a little help via Kickstarter I will create a series of films that feature unique recordings and personalized visuals by some of today's best new musicians.
In parallel to the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival event in October, I am inviting up to 30 bands to come record a track in a high-spec recording studio with a pro engineer and film crew. The space will be converted into a unique 'green screen' facility where each band's performance will be showcased amidst a collage of moving images totally bespoke to the band and their song. The output for the band is therefore a high quality mastered live take AND a powerful promotional video. We will record and film 4 to 5 bands a day, which sounds ambitious but it will be all about getting together to make an amazing video fast, without all the time-consuming production processes.
My goal is to then create a website to showcase our live recordings in a weekly curated fashion, and attract attention of top journalists, bloggers and industry figures. It will be a fun, creative experience for us all, with huge return for these bands on a small investment by our families, friends, friends-to-be, and supporters. The money needed is for the hard costs of equipment and resources to make this happen, not-for-profit.
CMJ takes place in New York every year and it coincides with the dates I am planning to shoot on, 17-24 October 2010. Hundreds of bands flock here hoping to gain the attention they deserve, usually spending their own money to promote themselves. I hope to offer them that opportunity for exposure while creating a new online music series that helps me in my career as a director too. And of course, for you the viewer to enjoy and share the videos.
Each donation will be rewarded! THANK-YOU
