We, Kevin Carr and Josie Mendelsohn, are completely delighted to have the opportunity to make a recording with our son and daughter, Daniel and Molly Carr. All together for a brief time now in southern Oregon, after years spent wandering the world and learning music together and separately, we are working on an collection of music that reflects our love of and gratitude for the various folk cultures that we have fallen in love with and been adopted by. We play music from Québec, Ireland, Galicia, and Appalachia: all places that have made us feel welcome and have shared with us the treasures of their musical heritage.
Our first concert as a family band took place in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, in the spring of 2010, in a tiny yet venerable folk club, Casa das Crechas. It was a wild, raucous, and completely joyful evening. We had played a tune or two together on various stages over the years, but this was the first time we came together as adults, each with his and her own tastes and favorite approaches to traditional music, and we've worked hard to forge something reflecting the diversity of our individual styles as well the as the passion we share for these living, breathing, dancing traditions.
We have found a world-class recording studio near where we live in the Applegate Valley of southern Oregon, and are more than thrilled by the prospect of working with Dennis Dragon, Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and musician.
Our aim is to record this spring and have a finished creation by midsummer.
