Black Diamonds, also called Carbonado, are the toughest form of natural diamond. They are found primarily in the Central African Republic and in Brazil. They are opaque diamonds with a black color that come in only one color-intensity - Black. They owe their color to the inclusion of graphite and random clustering throughout the diamond. The Black Diamonds are treated with High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) to enhance their color.
Each Black Diamond piece of jewelry will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. The brilliance and luster of these Earth mined diamonds will last forever. In addition to helping me design Black Diamond Jewelry for everyone, you will have a new family heirloom to pass down for generations.
All of our diamonds will be ethically sourced. What does ethically sourced mean? No one was exploited to retrieve these precious stones. Ethically sourced goods are produced and purchased in a manner that demonstrates respect for the people who retrieve them as well as respect for the environment.

Live For Gems wants to give back to the people who are involved in making this project come to the market. Black Diamonds often come from countries with economic hardships. Live For Gems will donate 5 books for every backer pledge to children in need. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela. We want to empower and inspire young people to learn to read and change the cycle of poverty. Your pledge will have an impact on the lives of children in need.
Ocho (Opportunities for Children to Help Others) is an charitable organization, led by Marilyn Perlyn, to put books into the hands of children in need. Through Character Education and Service Learning, students read books and learn to help others.
We will do everything in our power to make certain that we meet the timeline. If you order it, you will receive it! Every backer will receive their reward.
At the end of our Kickstarter campaign a Survey will be sent to every backer.
The Survey will contain choices for lengths, metals, and additional add on items. Bracelets will be available in 6 to 8 inch. Necklaces and chains will be available in 14, 16, 17, or 18 inch. Metals will be 925 Sterling Silver or White, Yellow, or Rose Gold on certain items. We will strive to fill custom requests upon communication with backers.
I have been a teacher with a Master's Degree in Reading and that is why I want any business to help children learn to read. With an education children will learn to help themselves. So I will be donating 5 books to OCHO (Opportunity for Children to Help Others) for every backer pledge to help children overcome economic hardships. I hope that Live For Gems will be able to give back to the communities that help to make this Kickstarter happen. With your pledges we will touch the lives of many children in need.
The idea for a jewelry business began with my father when he was a young boy in the 1930s. He was a struggling vendor on Maxwell Street in Chicago with his immigrant father. My father always said "If you can't succeed in the USA, then you can't anywhere in the world." Kickstarter is an opportunity to make that dream come true.
I inherited his love of entrepreneurship and three years ago I started a jewelry business designing original necklaces in South Florida. I began sourcing gems internationally so that family and friends could express their own unique styles with my jewelry designs. Now I want to bring Black Diamonds in original settings at reasonable prices to everyone. You are the driving force of our campaign, and ultimately our company. Thank you for making this possible. Please spread the word and share our campaign with the world.
Risks and challenges
Risk factors are fluctuating market prices of gold and silver. We should be able to complete manufacturing two weeks after our project finishes and we have received our survey back. Custom sizes and styles may take slightly longer. Delivery should be two weeks afterwards. Adding custom requests from backers may add additional time for delivery. If you want items customized on the jewelry such as lengths and metals, this can be accomplished with communication prior to productions.
Approximately 95% of all electronic diamond testers often identify treated black diamonds as moissanites, causing concern to consumers who thought they had black diamonds. This can occur if the tester was designed to separate diamond from moissanite based on electro-conductivity. Moissanite stones are electro-conductive, but natural-color diamonds are not. However, most black diamonds are treated with heat pressure and high temperature (HPHT) to enhance their color. Black Diamonds become electro-conductive during the process that enhances their color. As a result, jewelers sometimes misidentify the color enhanced diamonds.
So how do you determine if a black diamond is a real diamond or a moissanite? Actually, the test that labeled the diamond as a moissanite reveals the gem's true identity. Although diamond testers identify colorless moissanite, they don't take accurate reading of any colored moissanite. Because neither natural-color black diamond nor black moissanite test as moissanite on the electronic testers, when a jeweler tests a stone and the tester indicates "moissanite," the test is a confirmation that the black gem in question is not a moissanite, but is a High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) color enhanced black color natural diamond.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
