Putting It All Together
I'm pleased to announce that we have completed all the character animation for Steel Cut Oats! There are still a few effects shots and inserts to wrap up, but the bulk of the frames are in the can and we've officially entered the VFX/Compositing phase of production.
There is a bit less 'hands-on' stuff to show in this stage, which is why there have been fewer updates the last couple months, but here are a few fun items!
An in-progress example of 'before & after' boxing footage. VFX wizard Jake Akuna is currently compositing the physical crowd we photographed into all of the boxing ring shots.
Here we're photographing some practical steam elements to add to a stop-motion shot of Steam the Machine exhaling menacingly.
I've created a exact large scale cutout to match the miniature vents on the puppet's face.
We pump fog through the slits and photograph it as an element to overlay on top of the animation. Below is a shot from monitor so you can see how it lines up with the previously photographed animation.
Here is a quick test composite of the final effect.
And lastly, a rough composite of a shot that depicts Kidd Carraway teaching Oats how to box at sunset.
Thank you all for your continued support, and stay tuned for more updates...
