Sharing the love and enjoyment of reading by providing the first Little Free Library in town, stocked full of incredible books to share.
What it is
Little Free Libraries are small weather durable boxes placed in neighborhoods around the country. They are lovingly filled with books for both children and adults. The premise is simple. Take a Book. Return a book.
I moved from my hometown to a neighboring town a few years ago and discovered that many people who have moved to the area or lived towards the outskirts of town are unable to have a Library Card. I discovered the Little Free Library a few years ago and living in a large community, I believe the Little Free Library is the answer to providing reading to the community.
What will your Donation do:
Your donation will provide a weather durable, Amish Two Story Library, a wooden post for it to stand on, registration with Little Free Library (so people from outside the neighborhood can find us), a charter sign, and a sponsorship plaque.
Any funds donated above our goal will be used to provide the library with amazing books, flowers for the base, and keeping it maintain. If we go amazingly far over our goal, we will use the extra to place more Free Little Libraries in neighborhoods in Genoa and Kingston.
New Stretch Goals
We did it! The Little Free Library of Genoa is completely funded. Thank you everyone. Since we have time left, it's time for the stretch goals.
1. If we make $500 everyone who donated $5 or more will receive our original Genoa/Kingston Little Free Library bookmark.
2. If we reach $800 we can build a second Little Free Library in Genoa.
3. If we make $1,000 we can build a third Little Free Library in the Kingston area.
Risks and challenges
Genoa is in the midwest and close to the Wisconsin State Border, we have constant shifting weather from warm to cold. However, the box we will be getting is double walled and sealed tight with this express purpose in mind and is designed by people who have been making these boxes since the beginning of the Little Free Library Project.
One concern that people have is, what if people steal the books? You can't really steal a free book, but if it happens, I'll just replace them with more and stamp the spines with the Little Free Library logo and the words "Always a gift. Never for sale." to discourage second hand bookstores from accepting them for sale. Also, there is always the worry about vandalism. The funds of course will also be towards maintaining the LIttle Free Library for hopefully many years to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
If we meet our goal of $450 with plenty of time to spare. The plan is to do a stretch goal to fund a second Little Free Library in Genoa. We already have a person ready to house it.
