We're hoping to raise £1,700 so that we can bring this film to life. We have a really touching story that we think will be a joy to watch and will also showcase all the best qualities of Star Trek, too.
We have made eight short films in the past, so we have a track record of knowing what we are doing, and are very capable of making this film to a high standard.
But to do so of course requires money, hence the Kickstarter!
We have three departments of our production where the funding is needed the most. As we are film makers, we already have a lot of the camera equipment and other kit available to us (this is good, as this stuff is expensive and often the hiring of it takes up most of the budget) but we still need money for other areas. Let's examine them.
CAST: We have five characters in our film, and so we need to hire five actors (no casting ourselves like other "fan films"!) We will audition professional actors. Once we have cast these actors, we will have to pay them to act in our film. Before the filming, we first need to hold a rehearsal session with them and pay them for this, too. Finally, travel allowances and food for the shoot days must be catered for (pardon the pun!) as well.
WARDROBE: This is a Star Trek film set in the 24th Century - contemporary street clothes won't do. This means everyone in our cast of five will need a costume. We're not going to go mad and spend £800 per costume for 100% screen accurate fabrics and tailoring. At the same time however, we will not be content with ill-fitting £35 Amazon Halloween Star Trek costumes with printed-on comm badges, either.
SET: Notice "set" and not "sets!" We have a wonderful story that focuses on characters and their conversations, and so we have been able to craft the script in such a way as to avoid having to build an entire starship or alien village (it's not set in a cave either, Trek fans!). However, whilst the majority of our shoot will be filmed on location in a natural setting, we do still need to build one set. The script has been tailored to keep this set as small and simple as possible without diminishing the story. We will be aiming to construct the interior cabin of a type 15 shuttlepod.
That's it! That's where the money will be focused. There are a myriad of other miscellaneous costs involved, such as compensation, food and travel for the film crew, any payment for use of the filming location that may be required, consumables such as batteries and gaffer tape, rehearsal space and a host of other things. Lastly the fulfillment of the Kickstarter donation perks and of course - Kickstarters' cut of our fundraising.... Any money raised that is still available after our three main funding areas (cast, wardrobe, set) are met, will be used to fund these other areas. Any shortfall we will make up with our own money to complete the film.

Risks and challenges
As with any creative project there are always challenges, especially if you're making a science-fiction film on a small budget. Our first commitment is to making a quality project which makes good use of the backers donations. So the general challenge then is to make a good film. Of course, other challenges include casting, locations,
filming, visual effects and editing a project on a shoestring budget. However, as experienced filmmakers of some years, with eight short films behind us and numerous other promos completed, we are confident we can produce a great short film. We are passionate about the project and are also massive Star Trek fans. Overall, perhaps our biggest challenge is marketing the finished product and getting it made to a high enough standard to achieve generous viewership on-line, and at film festivals generally. We believe though we have the expertise
to achieve this and with Kickstarters help we will make a positive product everyone can be proud of.
