About this project
Stand in the spot that that inspired a masterpiece painting, and study the painting at the same time; feel the breeze, hear the ambient sounds of the place, and appreciate how the atmosphere has been captured in the art. Take note of what in the surroundings has changed, what has remained the same, and what has remained the same even as it has changed over the centuries.
We have developed a large catalog of (public domain) landscape, townscape, and seascape images, geocoded to the artist's vantage point (see geocodedArt.com). These have been integrated into google Earth and fun fly-through movies (see more links in the bio section). Now we want to make them accessible on location, but need support to program the database for smartphone and tablet platforms.
Our apps will deliver fine art images of your location to your location, on your GPS-enabled smartphone or tablet, so you can explore the painting and the place at the same time. The apps will notify you when you are in the area of a site that has been the subject of a great painting, and guide you to the site. Or you can browse from home, pick the sites you want to see, and plan your excursion.
The plan is to release collections of images in concentrated areas (Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Hudson Valley) and gradually cover the world with images that bring the artist's viewpoint into here and now.
Want to get involved? You can sponsor the project at different levels and have your name, or your company's name, attached to the paintings of a certain region, or by a single artist, or one particular favorite image.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
