I'm Ben Hock, founder and lead artist at Unsinkable Studio, a collective of artists and former classmates specializing in animation and motion graphics. Though Unsinkable is pretty new, our artists have experience on a wide variety of animated projects for TV and the web.
I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, inspiring the name for this project. Each episode is based on stuff that happened to me, or someone I know, as a teenager. After telling some of the stories to friends and colleagues, I knew I had to make them into a web series. Thus, "Mile High" was born, but we can only give it life with your support.
"Mile High" is the story of two high school friends, Dan and Sean, navigating the ups and downs of growing up, from house party disasters to embarrassing relationship woes.
Think Superbad meets Freaks and Geeks with a dash of South Park.
Each episode will be about 5 minutes and presented on our YouTube Channel.
Here is the intro to the show!
Dan accidentally vandalizes someone's backpack and he recruits Sean to help him find and destroy the evidence...
Dan and Sean throw a party while Dan's parents are out of town, but things get rough when they lock themselves out and Dan's grandma is the only one who can help them...
A school-wide foosball tournament has everyone on edge. Excitement mounts when Dan and Sean find themselves in the finals, but things get serious when an opponent goes down with an injury...
Dan's parents take the guys to Disneyland for spring break. Everything is going well until Dan and Sean hear questionable noises coming from Dan's parents' room...
If we raise more than $5000 and can make more episodes, we want you to help us decide the stories for new episodes.
The Kickstarter campaign will last for 30 days. If we get the amount of funds we need, we will immediately begin production on the first 4 episodes of the show! Based on the success of these episodes, we will assess our next steps.
We will be getting a head start during the campaign by creating characters and backgrounds to show off on this page. This way, we get to share our progress with supporters, and by the time the funds are raised, we will mostly just have animation, sound, and editing to deal with. (No biggie)
The goal is to have the first episode completely finished 6 weeks after the Kickstarter campaign is over. The following 3 episodes will be released every 2 weeks over a 6 week period.
If that doesn't seem like a lot of time, you're right! It isn't, but at Unsinkable we work fast. This is thanks in part to the software we use, which greatly speeds along the production process. This brings us to the next topic:
It's pretty simple. Your contribution to our project helps pay for additional licenses of the software we use to create the show, Toon Boom Animate Pro. The software is huge because it allows us to animate as fast as we do while keeping the show looking good. Additional money helps pay for all our hard work on this fantastic project.
Finally, a pretty big chunk of the money you help us raise goes right back to you in the form of REWARDS! Check 'em out!
NEW SPECIAL REWARDS PACKAGE!
$5,000 is the minimum to create the show, but the more funds we receive, the more episodes we'll be able to produce!
Risks and challenges
1. The show takes longer to produce or becomes more expensive than we anticipated, forcing us to cut down on some of the production value. - This can be avoided on our part by proper planning and investigation. Also, if we are able to raise more funds than we ask for, we can more easily create future episodes and decrease production time with more artists.
2. Computer/server malfunction - Unavoidable, but if it happens, we will have to work that much harder to make up for lost time.
Most of the serious issues we could encounter deal with time management and money. We have plenty of experience finishing successful projects for clients with tight budgets and even tighter deadlines. In this situation, we have to treat our Kickstarter supporters as the clients, and we never let the client down.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
