About this project
Bon Hiver re-invents the snowboard binding with it's unprecedented "Freebase" binding - utilizing magnets to fuse form and function.
For decades, the standard strap-in binding dominated the market, despite severe drawbacks. In that time, many companies have attempted to upend that design, but all have failed until now. We are the first company to successfully design and market a revolutionary, proprietary binding design, fusing the performance features of traditional bindings with a revolutionary design utilizing neodymium magnets that creates a new standard of convenience and innovation.
Transworld Business: "the more I learned from Founder Brendan Walker, a fellow skeptic and 20+ year shred vet, the more intrigued I became with this revolutionary new design. The Freebase system allows riders to strap a traditional looking and fitting binding on, and then lock that into a baseplate on the board, allowing for some interesting new options including skating into rails, with minimal added weight." How does it work? Bon Hiver’s Freebase allows you to strap-in both bindings at the base of the mountain once for the entire day and never have to worry about undoing any of your hard work getting in. We like to make things simple: strap in both bindings, reach down, disengage the lock on the back binding, rotate your foot, step out, and start skating to the lift. When you’re ready to lock back in on the lift (or on the ground), do it in reverse. Simply line your foot up angled to the board plate and the magnets will lift the board up so you can twist your foot and lock in while you're riding the lift. Once you have both bindings locked, dismount the lift, blow past your friends miserably strapping in, and ride.
Later on, if you get stuck on any flats, quickly disengage the back binding, skate and then step back into the board plate to rotate, lock the binding and keep riding. Easy does it.
Here's a demo so all of the words make a little more sense:

FAQs. Ok, we're sure you have a lot of questions, so here's our FAQ section. For all the As to your Qs, please click HERE.
- Q: Does snow stick?
- Q: If the bottom of the freebase binding is flush, how do you skate?
- Q: There are a lot of freestyle and park videos on the site, are these good for freeride and big mountain?
- Q: Will my freebase binding rotate out from the board plate?
- Q: Do they come in goofy?
- Q: What is the size range for the M/L size?
- Q: What if I have more questions?
How will we use the proceeds? While we hit the ground running this season, we still have a lot of work to do and, even though our bindings rock, we can always make them better. So, we're looking to the Kickstarter community to help us gain funding to pay for engineering and design fees as well as the additional tooling we'll need to manufacture next season's models.

Gratuitous snowboard video section! Ok, these videos don't really provide any more info, but if you've read this far, you're probably a rider and appreciate watching other skilled riders throw down. If so, this is just a little thanks for reading this far and hearing us out. Enjoy the Bon Hiver crew sessions at Mt. Hood and Mt. Snow.
Thanks and here's to a Good Winter!
