"Coyote in the Graveyard" is to be the first Thanatos physical release since 1997's "Blisters." I've often said I had no plans to ever do another LP but plans, of course, change (and I am full of crap). The idea to do this new one was inspired, in part, by a band I very much admire doing a Kickstarter to fund a project (Trance to the Sun). Their rewards etc. started me thinking and a show I played in NYC a few weeks back made me think even more.
This isn't just a record--it is a record taken from a small book of thoughts and stories I have been writing for several years inspired by coyotes, myths and all sorts of other stuff. There will be paintings, booklets and, of course, the music (if we raise more than the minimum I even have some additions in mind...)
I hope I've offered some rewards that are interesting to everyone but I am open to suggestions for other rewards. I plan on having some special guests on board for the recording as well. I am already working on the title track and a demo should be up soon. People may even be able to hear that before this funds...and dammit it is going to fund! I'll be posting art and demos for backers to hear and see.
Thanatos releases include 1993's "This Endless Night Inside," 1995's "An Embassy To Gaius," 1996's "665 Neighbor of the Beast," 1997's "Blisters and the 2003 release (under the band-name Illegalteenagebikini) "I Am Not Job."
Risks and challenges
The risks here are similar to risks in previous art projects--what if there is a bad print run or what if the paintings take longer than I thought. I am trying to alleviate these risks by starting the paintings NOW. Regarding printing, rather than WAIT until funding I have already identified my printing and pressing vendors so I can run with it as soon as this funds. I am often optimistic about how fast art can get done? So I have also extended the "estimated delivery date" to beyond where I think it possible to where it will CERTAINLY be done. Timing is the challenge!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
