My hope with this Kickstarter campaign is to raise enough funds to cover getting this show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It feels like a really good time to do a show like this. I need to cover the cost of a RT flight, a month of accommodation, fliers, posters, technical costs, and buying a super small projector so I can get there without excess baggage costs! I've been working on this show in my head, almost by accident for a couple of years, and officially for a little over a year. I could name various starting points for this show, but it was a night of 'joking' around on a lesbian cruise ship with some other lady comics, about this topic, and feeling odd about joking about it, but also realizing we understood the release that the jokes allowed that started the possibility of making it. A lot of other people have been making jokes about rape, and it's come up more and more in comedy lately - very differently if the comic is male or female.  It's a fine line to tread, trying to be thoughtful, provocative and irreverent when you have something you wanna get off your chest by being onstage, and when humor is your favorite tool. I think it's going to be an amazing but probably difficult month. But I wanna do it so badly I'm going to find a way.  Here's the description of the show that's available to press and stuff.

Dressed only from the waist up and ankles down, Adrienne Truscott, lets her pussy do the talking. If her behavior suggests that she’s ‘asking for it’ then common folly dictates that we already know the ‘finale’ to this show. Confronting the audience with this possible arc she mixes stand-up, video, nudity and some whimsical dance while undoing and doing-in the rules and rhetoric about rape, comedy and the brilliant, awful or awkward (take your pick!) laughs when the two collide. With commentary from George Carlin, Louis C. K. and Robert De Niro, she takes on polka-dots, pussy-puppets, mini-skirts, rape whistles, Daniel Tosh, Rick Ross and enough gin and tonics and bad behavior to get a girl in trouble. All decorated in 'confusing' give-it-to-me make-up and set to your favorite popular music, in a casual, boozy setting. While flirting with heaviness at its core, this piece is light on its feet and easy on the eyes. Can you make jokes about rape? She plans to, all night long! Even if you tell her to stop!

Risks and challenges

I think the risks and challenges of this show lie mostly in the performance of it. I have minimalized the costs of making it and performing it as radically as I can. I have designed or made all the costumes, videos, sound edits myself, or bartered with someone to do them. I have applied to do the Edinburgh Free Fringe to make my own overhead costs the lowest they could be. The only costs I've budgeted to cover with this campaign are those I have no power to change: flights, accommodation, registration fees, etc.
The show is almost finished. Im using the rest of July to fine-tune it and doing a one-off performance of it in NYC on July 24th at Dixon Place before Edinburgh Fringe. I have made it a one-woman show that fits in one suitcase in the hopes that it will be more attractive economically to potential presenters. I think, with this kind of show and material, it will not be completely fine-tuned or finished until it finds it's way in front of a live audience. As a seasoned performer of confronting and 'edgy' material I believe that doing Edinburgh Fringe - a festival of 30 nights of consecutive performance, is the best way for me to answer the final questions I have of this show, about what works and what doesn't. I don't think this particular run will produce any profit at all, but I hope that with some ticket sales and this Kickstarter campaign I could break even, come home with a great show and hopefully get this show some future engagements, as the festival is the largest festival, attended by the most international presenters, in the world. Thanks for any support or interest you have for this show.

A whistle. If you leave the house wearing it you are encouraged to assume only that you will suddenly be needed to referee a sporting event or add backing tracks on late-70's era disco songs (see Donna Summer's Bad Girls) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbGKeyCywTY).

When next we find ourselves in the same town, we can sit in the sun by a body of water featuring ducks and feed them bread crusts and such for about an hour or until something interesting happens.*

*If you get to see the show you will know the significance of this. If you don't get to see the show first, then I will explain the significance by the pond which I'm sure will lead to an even more interesting conversation than we are already having!

A limited edition photo from my promotional shots which features a happy-go-lucky naked lady risking a lot on the mean streets of Bed-stuy in the dark shadows of a Brooklyn night, proving with said photo that you can wear anything you like and act however you like even in sketchy places and you won't get raped if there isn't a rapist there. They really should get all the credit.

When next we find ourselves in the same city as Daniel Tosh we can go to his show and heckle him a bit. Not because he shouldn't be able to say whatever he wants, but just to see if he says anything funny back in response.
