Last year my mother passed away and in her memory I am producing a concert of choral music inspired by Eastern Orthodoxy.
When & Where
Sunday, 2 October 2016
Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary
3 Hania St, Wellington, New Zealand
His Eminence Metropolitan Amphilochios of New Zealand has given his blessing for the use of the Greek Orthodox church in Wellington. This is a significant decision for Wellington and the Greek community as no such event has taken place in the church ever before.
I have put together a motivated team of pros to make this happen!
We are proud to have Baroque Voices (BV) perform this concert directed by Pepe Becker and accompanied by Jonathan Berkhan on chamber organ. BV comprises 10 singers who specialise in performing medieval, renaissance and baroque music.
Stefan Bleyl, an artist from Germany, will also be creating the cover art for the marketing materials.
The programme includes works by Arvo Pärt, Igor Stravinsky, Sergey Rachmaninov, John Tavener and traditional chants.
I will also be composing a feature work in memory of my mother.
As with every concert there are many costs involved. The goal we have set does not reflect the full cost of the concert, but it helps me get things started and ensure that it happens.
Costs include performer fees, venue hire, instrument hire, printing, etc…
Risks and challenges
I have produced many concerts in the past with great success. This includes a production of Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers and several concerts of baroque chamber music.
The greatest challenge is raising the necessary funds. In the case that I am unable to reach our goal, those involved are aware, but still keen to see the concert happen, so will accept a lower payment or offer their services on a pro bono basis.
As they say, the show must go on!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
