Note: It is not recommended that you use the Seeed test to create your passwords to be used. This trial is used to demonstrate the website. If this campaign is successful, the algorithm will likely change and you will no longer be able to generate your password correctly.

What is Seeed?*

    Seeed is an easy-to-use website that allows you to create a strong password without worrying about forgetting it. Unlike random password generator websites, Seeed allows for easily recovering those passwords.  

    It is great if you want to have multiple unique passwords for each service you sign-up for while only needing to remember one password.

How does Seeed work?*

    Seeed uses what are called Seeds, hence the name. Seeds, along with a master password, are used to generate and regenerate passwords.

How do you use it?*

    As an example, let’s say you want to use Seeed to create a password for Facebook, you would enter your master password and a seed. The master password is a strong password that you create that should never change unless of course someone unwanted figures it out. The seed is something unique and related to the service you are creating the password for, for example, you can use the name of the service.

    In this example, we would put something like “yt&37m” as our master password and “facebook” as our seed. Then, select whether you want symbols and/or capital letters. It is recommended that you keep these settings enabled unless the website you are using the password for doesn’t allow it. Then, all you have to do is click and hold the button and the password will appear!

    If you want to copy the password, click the “Copy to Clipboard” button. Once you are done using the password and you used the copy feature, simply clear the clipboard by clicking the “Clear Clipboard” button. It will now be cleared with a clear message. Just say you want to use it on Twitter. All you need to do is change the seed to “twitter” and you will have a brand new password for twitter.

    So that is basically how you use Seeed. It is fast and easy to use so you don’t waste any time.

Is Seeed safe?*

    Of course. Since this website deals with passwords, I have tried to make this the most secure platform as possible. Seeed does not run any server side code except to count how many times the service has been used. The actual algorithm that generates your password is completely run on the device you are using. Therefore, Seeed does not store any passwords, seeds or master passwords at all. All it stores is how many times the website was used. If you want proof, you can even visit the Seeed Github page and read the code yourself.

Please note that the generator algorithm on the demo website is not safe at the moment. It will be changed after the Kickstarter is funded. It is just there to demonstrate the functionality.

Does Seeed have any weaknesses?

    The only real weakness of using Seeed is if the person who is trying to hack you knows you are using Seeed. In most cases though, if someone is trying to hack your password, there is no way they can know if it was generated with Seeed. If they are trying to bruteforce attack it to figure it out, it would takes years to figure out. Even then, it would be very hard to reverse the Seeed algorithm and get the master password.

What will Seeed cost to use?

    Seeed is meant to be completely free to use when released. This is why there is a Kickstarter campaign and Patreon funding, to pay the expenses of running it to give all users a free, equal and ad-free experience.

Why Kickstarter?

    Basically I decided to do a Kickstarter for 3 main reasons.

1. I need some funding in order to pay for servers and other tech related costs to keep the service running. If the fund goal is reached, I could easily keep the website running for 2 years and pay off other expenses.

2. Kickstarter is a great way to get a product out there on the market. I could probably release Seeed on my own but I don’t know how long it would last. Seeed is a great idea and if I did release it right now by itself, it would probably go unnoticed in the huge flood of websites on the internet.

3. Having stretch goals will allow me to release the service on iOS which has a lot of costs for developing on. Apple requires using a Mac computer to develop apps (costs at least $800 for a Mac Mini or more for something better) and has a required $100 developer license.

What is the funding goal?

    The funding goal for Seeed is $600CAD. Subtracting the Kickstarter fee, this will cover the costs of hosting Seeed on a powerful server for 2 years and pay for any other expenses along the way. Also, with the website, I also plan on releasing a desktop app for Windows, Linux and Mac so people can use Seeed offline from their desktop. On top of that, I plan on releasing Seeed to android. Android apps can be developed at a low cost so it will be easy to release it on this platform. The stretch goal is to release Seeed on iOS. The stretch goal is high, but that is because it will cost a lot to release on iOS.

How do you plan on keeping Seeed funded after 2 years?

    The Seeed website will have links to allow users to help fund the website either through Patreon or via Paypal. The plan is to use these services to pay for monthly server costs.

What will happen once it is funded?

    Once the Kickstarter is funded, I will begin work on finalizing the website and the Seeed algorithm to make it even better than it already is. The website needs some minor work to allow for a more user friendly experience on mobile devices. I will also start work on the android app and, if the stretch goal is reached, work on the iOS app.

How was Seeed invented?

    Like most inventions, Seeed was developed to solve a problem that many people face. There are of course password generators online, but remembering those passwords can be difficult and writing them down on paper or in a file is very unsafe.

    I got the idea because my dad was always forgetting his passwords and he wanted a way to safely store passwords and also be able to access them quickly. I decided to try to find a way to do this without having to store the passwords. I was doing a project on Perlin Noise for college at the time and with that on my mind, I got the idea for Seeed. Perlin Noise, like Seeed, uses a "seed" to create something that seems random but is created from a seed and creates the same thing everytime.

    That’s the beauty of Seeed, strong password generation without worrying about forgetting it. Passwords are not stored at all. There are ZERO downsides to Seeed.

Stretch Goal:

$1800 (+$1200 over goal): If a total of $1800 is funded, I will develop an iOS version of Seeed as well to allow mobile Apple product users fast access to password creating without needing to use data to visit the Seeed website.

iOS development comes at a high cost and that is why I need to ask for so much more. I would need to purchase a Mac computer and a Apple developer license in order to make the iOS app since those are Apple's official requirements.
