Thanks for visiting our Kickstarter page. We are excited about our film and invite you to help us finish it.

We have completed production and have a final cut of the film. We are asking for your help to raise finishing funds: the money to complete the final phases of post production. With your help we will be able to finish the film and release it to the world by the end of the year.

We can't do this without you!

Lenora and Arlan have a stable, long-term relationship when they make a considered decision to open it up to additional partners. Their intention is to engage in casual sexual experiences, but when they meet the mysterious and beautiful Nina, they decide to see her again. Over the following months their connection grow deeper, but over time Lenora and Arlan are stressed by the love triangle, culminating with Nina’s disclosure of a secret.

The Deep Sky is a poetic film that employs experimental flourishes and magical realist notes to create a visceral experience. Focused on its characters as richly developed individuals the story navigates the emotional and philosophical complexities of the world the three lovers have created.

          Facebook -- Twitter -- Instagram -- Website -- IMDb

In high school, my art teacher once said to me, “If you can say it, don’t make art about it.”  I took that as the central problem for me, as an artist: How do I make art that speaks to things that are too nuanced or too abstract to understand literally.  Twenty-six years later, I wrote The Deep Sky.  To describe its content, it’s easier for me to talk about the questions at play; what is meaning and how do we find it and construct it?  How does romantic and sexual love create meaning and what is the effect of its end on who we believe ourselves to be?  What is otherness, and how does it inform a sense of who we are in relation to it — how does the other expand or contract our understanding of who we are and our value in a greater world?

The Deep Sky is deeply personal, but not at all autobiographical.  It is the embodiment of ideas that I find at the core of who I am and who I strive to be.  I hope that I am able to create a work that raises my personal questions for my audience. Thanks for your support!

                                                                              ~ Frazer Bradshaw

Luise Helm : Nina

Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, Luise started dubbing as a child and has since played the German voice of Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, and others. She has appeared in dozens of German daytime and primetime TV shows, like the highly popular crime series “Tatort”, “Polizeiruf 110”, and “Soko Leipzig“. In 2003 she received “Der Deutsche Fernsehpreis” (The German Television Award) as best upcoming actress for her role in the TV feature “Königskinder”. Internationally, Luise Helm played in the Australian daytime TV show “Outriders” alongside Abbie Cornish. She also appeared in several movies, the best known being the teen comedy “Harte Jungs” (“Ants in the Pants”).

Kelechi Nwadibia : Arlan

Astute at a very young age, Kelechi had an epiphany-like realization that in everyday life is where most acting takes place. Life and perspective would change when he took to the stage and felt the real, true, and vulnerable feeling that comes with performing. It was in those moments that he fell in love with the craft of acting and performing arts. In every performance he gives, he hopes to share his passion and a piece of himself that in real, everyday life, he is at times unable to share.

Sarah Rose Butler : Lenora

Sarah Rose is a locally grown and sustainable source of Bay Area snark. Trained in theater and cutting her teeth on corporate and commercial work, she has starred in the independent films “Refuge,” and “Art School of Horrors”, in addition to roles in other independent projects. Besides acting, Sarah Rose also models. As a model she has appeared in campaigns for Levi's, Dolby, Adobe, Cisco, and eBay.

In The Deep Sky Lenora teaches Nina how to fold an origami crane. It is a touching moment of connection between two women reaching for an understanding of their shared experience. Later, Lenora and Arlan use origami cranes as a symbolic release of the complex deep emotion that is experienced by the young couple.

Traditionally, it was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one's wish would come true. It has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times. As a result, it has become popular to fold 1000 cranes (in Japanese, called “senbazu."

Risks and challenges

QUESTION: Movie making is expensive. Will you have enough money to finish your film?
ANSWER: Filmmaking is expensive but we know how to stretch a buck. Our entire production team is experienced and committed to this project. The film will get finished. But, frankly, the more money we raise the more we can do to make the film great.

QUESTION: What are your plans for the distribution of the film?
ANSWER: We plan to reach audiences through film festivals, theatrical, broadcast, and Netflix and other digital distribution. Our producers are alumni of some of the top festivals in the country. Festival screenings will provide access to national media that will build critical interest and momentum. We will enlist the services of a sales agent to secure a deal with a distributor who best suits the goals of the film.

Thank you for being a part of THE DEEP SKY.
