About this project

Girltripping

Austin’s only all-female musical improv troupe, Girls Girls Girls, is raising funds to take our show on the road. The Girls have been invited to play in the Twin Cities Improv Festival in June and have also set our sights on the New York Musical Improv Festival in November.

Your backing will help us take our award-winning improv stylings to a national audience, and bring the best techniques back to Austin’s improv community. As part of this project, Girls Girls Girls will organize a FREE musical improv workshop for the Austin Improv Collective in early 2012 to share what we’ve learned on the road.

Of course, it wouldn’t be summer without our award-winning Boys of Summer shows. Your pledge will also support our production costs for five awesome shows at the Hideout Theatre July 29-August 26.

In return for your backing, we will send a lot of Girly love your way, with tickets to Boys of Summer shows, autographed posters, limited edition t-shirts, and GGG decals. The Girls are also offering trainings, classes, and consultations to our beloved backers.  You can also get a personalized video singing telegram--a GGGgram!

Best of all? Two lucky backers will get Michael Brockman, human jukebox, to play at your next party!

FAQ

  • Girls Girls Girls is Austin, Texas’s only all-female musical theater improvisation troupe. Our specialty is creating full-length improvised musicals from a single audience suggestion. In other words the Girls and their live musicians make up the songs, dances, characters, and stories to create one complete, blow-your-socks-off musical–and we do it, completely on the fly.

We have been an artistic collective since September 2003, and currently we are comprised of 7 members (including two musicians). We strive to present shows that have fun story arcs and clearly recognizable musical theater elements. However the fun doesn’t stop there for GGG! As a part of our development, we are continually designing new techniques for incorporating the nuances of musicals into an improvised performance.

We have had the pleasure of performing in festivals in Minneapolis, Seattle, North Carolina, Atlanta, Dallas and of course our home of Austin, Texas where GGG has taken the honor of Best of the Week in multiple years of Frontera Fest at Hyde Park Theater; as well as recognition as Austin’s Best Improv Troupe in the Austin Chronicle. For four years we also produced the Ladies Are Funny Festival (L.A.F.F.), a comedy showcase for women from around the world.

  • We are excited to learn more musical improv techniques to bring back to Austin. The New York Musical Improv Festival is one of the only festivals devoted specifically to musical improv. It is an invitation-only festival and features some of the best musical theatre/improv performers and teachers in the country. We think that's worth bringing back to the Austin Improv Community.

While we think travel is important for learning and sharing new ideas, it is also expensive. We are a group made up of actors, working moms, and even a nurse (Go Megan!). We have a No Girl Left Behind philosophy--we don't want anyone left out of a trip because of an inability to cover their full travel costs.

Also, we pay our musical improvisors to rehearse and play with us, which means our show production costs are a little more expensive than regular improv shows.
