About this project
Hey there, Kickstarter type people. My name is Ken Lindsey and I am asking for help to publish my young adult, fantasy series, The Fight for Caithiir.
What is this series about?
Well, this series deals a lot with separatism and segregation. It is also, however, about the power we can each find in ourselves and the strength that can come from learning and accepting your own faults. It is also about friendship and how people can change for the better by learning from others' mistakes. Mostly, though, it's about awesome magic and Faeries that don't have wings.
The first book, The River Runes, has already been finished and self published, but I quickly learned that it is almost impossible for an author to find and fix all of his or her mistakes when it comes to something they have loved and worked on for years. Here is a short synopsis of the first novel:Jonathan is a young man, on the cusp of taking his Master's place as magician of Third Chapel. Things are better than he ever expected; he's becoming closer to his father, he is in the midst of a blossoming romance, and his magical abilities are growing every day.
And then an exotic stranger named Bixby finds his way to Third Chapel. The faerie is curious about the people that inhabit Caithiir, the great city that stands so close to the woods, and Mother is not around to stop him from finding out what he can.
Mother, however, has been awakened in Bixby's absence only to find that one of her own has openly defied her. Jonathan and his Master are determined to protect Bixby, but the cost may be more than they can afford to lose.
Why do I need help funding this project?Mostly, because I believe in it so strongly. With the proper tools on hand, and editor and a cover artist, I really think that The Fight for Caithiir can go far. There are so many costs that come along with publishing a book, especially if you want that book to be able to stand up next to others that have had the backing of a publishing house. If I meet my fundraising goal, every penny would be used to polish the series, including a re-edit and relaunch of book one. I would also be able to find a cover artist that has the talent to meet my vision, and then have the means to properly market the series for the long run. Here are some kind words I've received from folks that have already read book 1:
"...Enthralling, heart-warming and to a certain degree thought provoking the river runes tells a magical story that most parents would be delighted to share with their kids."-Shane Porteous; author of Rasciss and Grave Caller
"... an interesting read for the young and the young at heart, which I enjoyed very much. Would definitely recommend to parents and their kids as well as anyone who's interested in magic and fantasy." -Jayde Scott; author of The Ancient Legends series
Publishing the first book in this series was an absolute dream come true for me, one of the happiest days of my life. I've spent years building this world and its characters, and with just a little bit of help from Kickstarter, I know that I can give the series what it needs to thrive. Of course, there are a lot more costs involved with this project, but this would be an amazing way to get started. My hope is to have book 1 re-released and book 2 finished and released by the end of this year, with book 3 to follow soon afterward. Thank you so much for stopping by!
