Whether you're holding an iPhone or a high-end camera, this interactive ebook will change the way you think about photography and film. With stories, photos, videos, and sound, CAPTURE! takes you to real-world scenarios around the globe to ignite your creativity and raise your skills. Enjoy!
Photographer and cameraman Gert Wagner and his team are creating a special kind of book. CAPTURE! is a multifaceted learning experience that uses state-of-the-art digital media. CAPTURE! will be available for iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone, iPod Touch, and for any Mac or PC ebook-reader software.
On countless assignments around the globe Gert has faced challenges that have taught him things no ordinary textbook could ever cover. Spontaneous, effective solutions are crucial in meeting those challenges – and meeting the high expectations of his clients. Learning by doing is part of Gert’s credo and success. This ebook is a gold mine of practical guidance to anyone who wants to shoot extraordinary photos or videos.
CAPTURE! puts the emphasis on creativity and not lavish hardware, so the reader will get the most out of any equipment – even if it is a simple iPhone camera. While the camera is what takes the picture, our sense of light and composition makes the picture. Great photography starts with your eye, and experience comes from experimentation. And for video, it doesn’t matter if you are an expert photographer or just a beginner. The in-depth introduction to video production will give you what you need to start making motion pictures with confidence.
In CAPTURE! Gert Wagner lets us enjoy an insider’s view of the photographic process with the story behind the shoot. Using the full capabilities of today’s digital media, Gert shares his vast experience through episodes from his globe-hopping career, bringing them to life with interactive photos and video. This ebook takes the reader on a highly entertaining adventure and covers the essential knowledge you need to create truly special images. Regardless of the photographic tools – from simple to sophisticated – this hands-on book delivers a wealth of inspiration that applies to everyday situations, taking anyone’s visual skills to a whole new level. Ultimately, Gert Wagner’s CAPTURE! shows why creativity is so much fun.
In addition to Gert’s experience, CAPTURE! brings you interviews with acclaimed photographers, cameramen, film editors, and sound designers. These seasoned professionals reveal their individual approaches – and some of their best-kept secrets.
Storytelling is the essence of photography and film. CAPTURE! approaches photography as way to see the world and discover its singular moments. This act of discovery is never-ending and is the most rewarding part. That's what CAPTURE! is all about.
This ebook is the multimedia extension of Gert Wagner’s previous book, PHOTOGRAPHIC CHALLENGES. Gert has incorporated the earlier work’s real-world approach by discussing surprisingly simple solutions to a wide range of scenarios. Now CAPTURE! greatly expands this concept. Gert has teamed up with designers and software experts to translate PHOTOGRAPHIC CHALLENGES into an interactive medium, and is adding new chapters and video. CAPTURE! will be the result of this synthesis: a truly extraordinary interactive ebook.

Gert Wagner – Photographer, Cameraman, Director – Germany
As a photographer, Gert has traveled the globe on assignments for numerous magazines and companies. This hard-earned expertise has been a solid basis for his work as a photographer, cameraman, and movie director. In short: his world is all about telling stories through pictures. If it weren’t, he would be telling stories through music, preferably with his trumpet.
Jonathan Myers – Editor, Manager – USA
Jonathan’s love of language is informed by his passion for composition and of music. As editor of our stories he makes sure our adventures come across vividly, and as manager he makes sure the project timetable, production, and formalities stay in sync. We hope to be able to apply his trombone playing in one of our next projects.
Thomas Bauche – Software Engineer – Germany
Thomas is a master of network technology, Unix server structures, and application development. His background in web publishing and print media make him a great asset to our team. When he’s not on the highways of the internet you can find him touring the byways of Europe on his bike.
Christoph Sommer – Designer – Germany
Before he turned to web development and Flash animation Christoph was a painter. This makes him a graphic designer with the technological edge that is essential for what this team is aiming to accomplish.
Eike Göpffahrt – Designer – Spain
As a graphic designer, art director, and photographer Eike is a visual artist with a successful track record on countless media projects. He is also a pilot with an uncanny ability to bring the inspiration he finds in the sky back down to earth.
Tobias Wagner – Composer – Germany
What would many of our videos and films be without Tobias’s music and sound design! A film, however brilliantly shot, needs great sound to truly come to life. No book about film can be complete without talking about sound, and that is where Tobias comes in.
INCENTIVES FOR PLEDGING
Backers who pledge $10 will receive a downloadable high-resolution poster from a choice of 12 photos. All our sponsors with contributions starting at $20 will receive a digital download of CAPTURE! including future updates. For backers not in possession of an iPad, a format for Mac or PC ebook reader software will be available. High-resolution digital photo files and prints from a particularly attractive choice of 12 photos are available depending on your level of support. For contributions starting at $100, the names of our sponsors will appear inside the book.
In addition to the incentives directly connected with the book, pledges of $50 and up will be recognized by something very individual and truly unique: on the basis of any submitted photo or video sequence, Gert will grant the backer a personal coaching session by email, Skype or phone. The more you pledge, the more material you can submit for discussion. Gert will take time to analyze the details, comment on all positive aspects, suggest alternative solutions, and answer questions in English or German. Additional downloadable and printed posters can be substituted for coaching sessions.
The ultimate experience will be available for contributions of $10,000 or more: Gert will join you for five days of personal coaching and collaboration on a photo or video project, including post production, anywhere in the United States or Europe. Several participants in one session are welcome.
Production, Communication, Updates
Photography and text of the book have been finalized. Producing additional visual media content, interactive features, and technical realization will take approximately two months, permitting publication in late February. Gert will keep communication open to backers for the purpose of getting suggestions and improvements to updated versions of the book. Future updates will be sent out as an exclusive service for backers only.
Risks and challenges
Being involved in the visual arts business, we are experienced in dealing with unpredictability. That makes preparation all the more important, and we have started this project with a huge store of material at our disposal, eliminating production risks. The technical features of this ebook have already been tested and proven, and everything functions exactly the way we visualized it. The major challenge left now is the funding of the project, and here we are building on the support of many enthusiastic backers who share our passion for photography and film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
