About this project
We are ecstatic about reaching our goal and will continue raising funds until Friday at 9pm PST. Thank you in advance for your support!
¡Enciéndelo! (Fire it up!)
Let’s create a hot sauce revolution that brings all of our hearts, minds, and bodies closer together through love, heat, and spice!
Ladies and gentlemen: it is the year 2013, and the month of June. The flags are up on Market Street. Love is in the air. And yet love and equality are at stake—this month. Enter Fire Dragon Love Sauce: The Official Hot Sauce for Gay Marriage! This is a hot sauce like no other. It engages multiple senses and synthesizes unique and delicious ingredients such as ginger, cocoa powder, mezcal, and of course, Dragon Love!
We are in contact with interested prospective buyers at San Francisco stores and just received our first order to produce two cases for the one and only legendary Rainbow Co-op Grocery (available this summer, more details coming soon). With your support, we will be able to produce additional cases of the sauce, and spread the love to even more stores!
We are a mom and mom shop and have been making the sauce, with love, just for you, out of our home kitchen in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco. We are ramping up and in the process of moving to a commercial space. But for the time being, we need that extra push to get to the next level. We need your help in defraying all of the costs related to logistics and legalities such as business registration licensing, nutrition labeling, insurance, attorney and consultant fees, permits, supplies and ingredients, and better blending and bottling equipment that will help us be the best Fire Dragon Love Sauce makers we can possibly be.
Our minimum goal of $4500 takes into account approximately 10% of fees that will go to Kickstarter and Amazon. If we do not reach this goal by July 5, we will not be able to keep any of the pledged contributions. Please help us reach our goal by spreading the love and the word about this phenomenal hot sauce campaign!

“The Story Behind Fire Dragon Love Sauce” by blogger/novelist AJ Walkley
“It is very tasty! No getting around that it is wicked hot. Not for the faint of heart. But the habaneros and mezcal give it a complex flavor that makes it worth the burn!” - Michael Natkin, Cookbook Author of Herbivoracious and CTO of ChefSteps.com (Seattle, WA)
"Fire Dragon Love Sauce nailed it. I'm a hot sauce freak. It has more heat and impressive ingredients than any other hot sauce, plus lots of interesting, delicious flavor, rich color, and nice thickness!" - Marga Gomez, Award-winning LOGO/HBO Comedian (San Francisco, CA)
“After living in New Orleans for four years, I consider myself a hot sauce connoisseur. I can genuinely say that Fire Dragon Love Sauce is the best that I've had in a long time. Smoky, bright, and not too spicy, this is a pepper sauce that I use several times a week.” - Bryant Terry, Cookbook Author of Vegan Soul Kitchen and Grub (Oakland, CA)
"Smoky, sultry, and oh-so-good with everything from chocolate to mayo." - Sita Bhaumik, Interdisciplinary Artist, Research Fellow at the Institute for Art and Olfaction, and Chef Organizer of the People's Kitchen (Oakland, CA)
"The smoky intoxicating flavor takes my taste buds to a new level." - Michelle B., Travel Specialist (San Diego, CA)
"Some supposedly great hot sauces include mezcal as their special ingredient, while others show off their habanero. But none bring together mezcal, habanero and Dragon – quite simply an inspired, unprecedented and perfect combination. This is the best hot sauce around, period." - Ravi Chhatpar, Consultant (South Africa)
“This is my go to hot sauce for everything! It adds just the right amount of punch to home fries, eggs, rice noodles, tamales, collard greens, or whatever your culinary tradition. I hope to see it in a micro bottle so I can pack it in my bag for those emergency moments when confronting flavorless food. Thank you Dragon Love!” - Young Whan Choi, Father of 2012 Water Dragon Baby (Oakland, CA)
"After moving to London, this hot sauce kept me alive!" - Chendo Shuhandorain, Professional Engineer by Day and Musician by Night (London)
“I can't find anything this awesome sauce is not good on. It has a unique blend of flavors that is not too overwhelming or spicy. It's just perfect!” - Regina Gonzales, IT Specialist and Military Veteran, (Berkeley, CA)
The story… what’s in a name?
Fire Dragon Love Sauce: The Official Hot Sauce for Gay Marriage was conceived by us—wife and wife Heather Cox Carducci and Gigi Otálvaro-Hormillosa. We are both Fire Dragons according to Chinese astrology and held our commitment ceremony in San Francisco last September during the year of the Water Dragon which also happened to be our ten year anniversary; hence, the name of the sauce.
During the first phase of the project, we produced approximately 100 bottles of the sauce as party favors for our wedding guests and received an overwhelming response.
An integral part of our creative process is the cultivation of the sauce’s synaesthetic qualities, such as its ability to stimulate the creative, sensual, and intellectual senses by way of the gastronomic ones. Special thanks to renowned cookbook author and fellow Brown alum Michael Natkin whom Gigi read about in her alma mater’s alumni magazine and with whom she consulted on the base for the sauce.

Read our bios and visit our individual websites on our Kickstarter profile page to learn more about us, our successful creative collaborations over the last eleven years, and our ability to execute this project with efficiency, love, and style.
If you or someone you know loves your hot sauce, but feels ambivalent about your flaming (Dragon) neighbor, then Fire Dragon Love Sauce is for you. Of course this sauce is also for all you hot sauce freaks who, like us, go through hot sauce bottles on a weekly basis.
Look out for upcoming monthly Fire Dragon Love Sauce-aholics Anonymous meetings coming to a town near you!

Risks and challenges
Our company Otaducci (the combination of our names) is registered as a business in San Francisco. We have successfully collaborated together over the last eleven years on multiple projects, performance events around the world, and most importantly, on LOVE. As such, we are fully capable of launching our Fire Dragon Love Sauce, that is, with your support! We pride ourselves on being effective communicators and will be sure to keep our backers up to date about any delays, due to higher than expected demand.
A word regarding risks: this sauce is HOT. Please take caution. You might also risk feeling an overabundant outpour of love to which you and others around you may not be accustomed. If this happens, SPREAD THE LOVE!
