About

In the history of the Known Universe, there has never been an election more monumental or more consequential that the 2016 race between Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and Paul 'Muad'dib' Atreides. Both men, lionized by their followers and reviled by their critics, stood as larger than life figures in a no-holds-barred contest that forever changed the course of human history. For a limited time, you can own the entire story as only first-hand reports from that time could tell it. Watch how the leaders of two Great Houses squared off in epic debates, read campaign reports from reporters who covered the race and get the kind of in-depth historical analysis that only the best mentats could provide.

The Story

When we started our little parody transposing the U.S presidential candidates onto Dune's villain and anti-hero, we assumed it would get a little chuckle out of a few of our buddies. But the Twitter and Facebook response to our comic has exceeded our expectations by far, so we've expanded our plans to include an anthology covering every twist and turn of the 2016 race for the Lion Throne. Something that began as a quick joke between two friends has grown into a quirky, cynical look at the dystopian political landscape in which we find ourselves, and transposing the circus of this election cycle onto the framework of Dune has become our blissful escape from the sideshow.

What Am I Getting?

Frank Herbert's Duniverse is one of the richest and most immersive literary creations to ever grace the printed page, and our ability to seamlessly plug in so many of the themes of this election is a testament to how complete and prescient his vision of the future truly was. We've tried to put our own spin on his ability to simultaneously include present action and historical context to create something bigger than the sum of its parts, and we've dropped in all kinds of details for fans at every level, from those who stopped with the first Dune novel to those who have obsessed over every one of the prequels. Here's what's going to be inside the comic:

  • Every comic strip from the two debates, in beautiful high definition and remastered for the printed page
  • Every mockumentary-style news entry we've written to chronicle the scandals around each candidate
  • All of the Super PAC ads, campaign banners and propaganda that fueled the race
  • Some of the most memorable Twitter exchanges between the two candidates
  • An exclusive final note from the historians chronicling the impact of this crazy election, millennia after the dust has settled (in true Herbert fashion)

The finished book will be an 8x10 softcover and run anywhere from 50-60 pages once we’re done, but we’re flexible on the page count because the election is still a moving target and there’s so much left to say about Muad’dib and Baron Harkonnen.

About The Creators

Daniel Pye is a reporter and political junkie who firmly believes science fiction novels and standup comedy are the purest forms of philosophy we have left.

K.C. Fagan is a reclusive, artistic genius lost in the American Midwest, where he belongs.

Risks and challenges

We’re creating the comics, articles, Twitter posts and other campaign propaganda as we go, so the only risk to our being able to complete the project is not meeting our funding goal. That’s where you come in! Anyone chipping in $3 or more will receive a full PDF of the book in all its glory. The first 100 early birds who order a book will get theirs at the introductory price of $16 (basically the cost of printing and shipping both ways); after that the price is $20, and anyone outside the U.S. will have to wrangle with the cost of international shipping.
