Mobile Garden Project
North Coast Food Web is growing fresh food in recycled shopping carts. Eat healthy and get your daily exercise, all in one!
The Mobile Garden Project is uniquely designed to let anyone grow their own food. We will grow gardens in old shopping carts and loan them out to families, classrooms, retirement homes, etc. Each garden will come equipped with the instructions and materials needed to grow food, and recipes with ideas for using the food. Each cart will be given a unique name (e.g. "Take me for a Spinach" or "Peas and Thank You") and hosts will get to choose which they want to help grow. Hosts will care for their Mobile Garden for the season and be invited to a Mobile Garden Gathering and parade at the end of the season to celebrate the year's harvest and growth!
By supporting the Mobile Garden Project you're not only supporting this small project and helping us reach more folks in our area, you're also supporting the local community and economy, and organic agriculture. The scale and mobility of the project suit our community's size, housing conditions, and limited access to sunlight. The Mobile Garden Project will allow folks who previously had no access to growing their own food to experience that joy. This, combined with the charismatic nature of such a project, will promote community involvement, access to fresh food, physical fitness, education, empowerment and stewardship. We believe that, as a result of the Mobile Garden Project, participants will eat healthier, more nutritious foods, will exercise more, will know how to grow food, and will have an increased awareness of their impact on and role in the food system.
HOW DOES THIS FUNDRAISER WORK?
This kickstarter fundraiser is all or nothing: if we don't reach our goal, we will not receive any of the donations pledged and your credit card will not be charged. If we do reach our goal (and we really hope we do!) your credit card will be charged on June 29th - the day the campaign ends. To the right you'll find a list of rewards for different levels of pledges. And keep in mind that your pledge, if our project is funded, will be fully tax deductible! Along with your reward, you'll be sent a receipt with our 501c3 information for your tax records. Please help us make our dream become a reality!
Any donation you make will go toward the landscape cloth, soil, seeds and starts, tools, promotional materials, and a part-time coordinator position needed to make this project a success. The more you give, the bigger and better the project will be!
HOW DID WE GET STARTED?
North Coast Food Web is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to bringing local food to everyone. We work in various projects around food system improvement and education. Our community needs more people to be growing food, and the Mobile Garden Project is one way we brainstormed to make that happen. We knew we needed garden beds that were small, mobile, and cheap, and shopping carts clicked as the answer. Old shopping carts started appearing in our lives and the project was born.
This project is happening thanks to a unique collaboration between OSU Extension, Clatsop County, and North Coast Food Web.
