Rules Overview - Campaign !

Previosuly, we were able to see almost all the rules of OrcQuest - WarPath. Today, we will look at how to manage them throughout a campaign and/or its related chapters.

In OrcQuest WarPath, the orcs decide to assemble a band of heroes to oppose the desire to conquer of Istarra's human foes.  

Their mission will be to infiltrate the Royal capital of Castelray, first through the countryside, where Peasants, War Dogs and Soldiers risk showing up and try to stop them.  

It will also be necessary to cross all the military barracks, infested with Soldiers, Guards and Officers, to finally arrive in the luxurious apartments of the castle of the king.  

This campaign will take place over 3 chapters, each divided into 3 missions. It will be possible to play the campaign as a complete adventure where you can follow the evolution of your heroes, play a standalone chapter, or even just a single mission.

Through expansions or special missions, it is also possible to play new Chapters or simple independent missions.  

These Secondary Chapters and Single Quests also have a chronological order linked to a Campaign. Players can add these elements to their Main Campaign to enrich their adventures while staying in the thread of the story, or play them independently to go fight a chosen enemy type.

Each Skill and Kraft equipment acquired during a mission can be saved for the next one. However, each Chapter (or Secondary Chapter) and Single Mission has a starting limit, called the Challenge Level.  

And yes, between two Chapters your heroes will rest and drink heavily (the Orcs often prefer evenings in taverns to long training days), and the Krafted Stuff must be shared with the other Orcs (it´s mostly taken by the elder...) , or it can break with time.  

Note: 

  • When playing in Campaign or Secondary Chapter mode, heroes may only purchase one Skill per mission.  

Each Chapter has its own Challenge Level based on three difficulty levels: Easy (for those who just want to live an adventure), Normal and Difficult (for those who want a real Challenge).  

The Challenge Level is indicated in the Chapter presentation. It sets the Badass Point costs of the Skill Cards and the number of Krafted items Heroes may have when they start this Chapter.  

This means that if your hero has more Badass Points Skills than expected, he will have to discard as many Skill cards as necessary to reach the maximum allowed.  

An authorized number of Kraft cards is also specified in the Challenge Level. Kraft cards with *** count as the double. The excess Kraft cards are discarded.  

The Challenge Level will also play, for each scenario, on the composition of the Patrols and the number of Presence Dice to roll for each opened room.

Note :

  • Relics on the other hand are systematically preserved from one scenario to another. Your Heroes have suffered enough to obtain them, they deserve them!
 

There is nothing more simple than playing a Stand-alone Chapter. Your Heroes start their adventure with the Skill Cards and Kraft of your choice corresponding to the Challenge Level!

As you can imagine, playing on the Difficulty Level will allow us to adapt the number of Heroes present during our adventures. This was not initially planned, but we understood that it was one of your strong demands, and therefore as an orc always adapts...  

For the campaign to be enjoyable we want to have truly balanced scenarios, and balancing scenarios for each number of players will really take time and might not be that simple.  

That's why we've decided to offer you, along with the package, a downloadable booklet on our site that will allow you to play all missions with any number of Heroes from 2 to 6 for each Chapter and Quest.  

The advantage of the downloadable booklet is that it will avoid any risk of delay (... no, the solution to rush to meet deadlines is not Orcish, sorry...), and especially will eventually offer "adjusted" versions (as much as it is quite simple to balance a campaign for 4 heroes, with a variable number from 2 to 6 it is possible we need to make some balancing adjustments after your feedback).

Now that you know the main rules of OrcQuest WarPath, it will be easier for you to get an idea of how the game is played.  

We have also prepared an example of a video game turn for a better immersion.

      You don't say anything about how the 6 scenarios from the artbook will be integrated to the game in this chart, care to elaborate?

      @Peter: I think it's developed pretty far already. They have been demoing this at several game conventions. And of course it's not 100% done, this is a KS after all. (and not a CMON pre-order disguised as a KS).
      I do agree they should have simply recorded a demo game with actual people and just posted that as well. I hope they still will. Nothing fancy, just an actual playthrough.

      I'm still confident this will be an awesome game though.

      yes, a 1 hero game is not possible

      Assume solo play therefore must be a minimum of 2 heroes controlled by the single player.
