We’d like to introduce you to someone -
This is Chris New - he makes theatre and films.
And this is his friend Chris Dunkley - he’s a playwright.
A couple of years ago Chris Dunkley wrote a play called ‘Smallholding’ and Chris New wanted to act in it. This year they premiered it at the young and trendy HighTide Festival and, luckily for them, it went really well. The audiences loved it and the production was crowned the ‘hot ticket’ of the festival. Woo-hoo! But, now, the festival’s over and the production’s gone.
We want to give the play a new lease of life. A sexy, shiny, show-it-in-cinemas-and-in-homes-around-the-world kind of lease of life! And there is only one way to do that and that’s to make a film!
Our story centres on a couple - Andy and Jen - who are returning to where they grew up in an attempt to find a new life, but the life they try to leave behind isn’t done with them yet. It’s an occasionally comic but, more often, heart-rending tale. And we’re excited to share it with you.
We’re in a very good place; Chris and Chris have adapted the script, Chris New is gearing up to direct and our main cast is now confirmed -
Matti Houghton played Jen in the original stage production. Luckily for us, she’s agreed to reprise the role.
David Hayler will take the role of Andy. He recently starred in the Chris New directed production of Chris Dunkley’s latest play ‘The Precariat’. He’s also, supposedly, one of Ricky Gervais’ favourite actors.
And, to round off the cast, the brilliant actor and musician Johnny Flynn has recently agreed to join the team. We're thrilled that he is on-board.
We’re ready to go, all we need now is YOU! We’d love for you to join the team.
Risks and challenges
As with any film we are at the mercy of the elements. Shooting entirely on location will present challenges but, with such a small cast and crew, we should be flexible enough to stay on time and under budget.
We’d really appreciate your support, either in the form of a pledge or - just as valuable to us - by spreading the word far and wide. Every penny we raise will go straight into the film and, hopefully, we’ll create something you’ll enjoy and be proud to have been a part of.
Thanks for hearing us out.
