Dear friends, fans, followers and fellow artists...
The Rheingans Sisters are making a new album, and we - Anna and Rowan - are looking for your support to finish it and get it out into the world.
Since winning the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for 'Best Original Track' in 2016, we have been exceptionally busy! As well as gigging lots in the UK, we've done our first international touring in Europe and Australia, and spent time studying in Norway, France and Ireland; as ever, immersing ourselves in new musical landscapes and meeting many inspiring people. We have been compelled to keep on composing new songs and tunes, and feel like we are really finding our feet in a musical world that traverses old and new.
We're about two thirds of the way through making our third album, which will be called 'Bright Field'. A full album of original songs and tunes, it is a result of two years of deep learning, searching, travelling, writing and composing. Perhaps it is our most 'open-minded' and adventurous collection so far (we think so!). 'Bright Field' is a record inspired by the ever present contrasts in all our lives; life and death, light and dark, hope and despair, dreams and reality. As is now becoming our practice, old musical landscapes underpin these new songs and tunes which sit in a contemporary musical world while drawing from the well of musical knowledge passed down through generations.
To finish our album 'Bright Field' and release it in Spring 2018, we really need your help! You can simply pre-order a copy, which we will sign and post to you as soon as it's printed (before it's released) or you can donate in return for other rewards and packages that we have exclusively devised for Kickstarter pledgers. This will enable us to make this album a physical reality. Although our overall expenses are much more than we are asking for here, reaching our Kickstarter goal will go towards paying for the following: mixing and mastering the album, paying for the artwork and design, printing the first run of albums and commissioning a music video to support one of the songs.
We have been recording with Dylan Fowler, with whom we worked (and who did a fantastic job) on our second studio album 'Already Home'. For 'Bright Field', we have also enlisted the help of American artist and printmaker Kathleen Neeley to design a special cover artwork inspired by our original compositions. This artwork will be available as prints to Kickstarter pledgers. To get an idea of Kathleen's artwork, visit her website: http://www.kathleenneeley.com. We are also working on a tune-book, containing scores of our music with harmony lines, for pledgers who wish to learn them and play with others. There's also the opportunity to donate in return for free tickets to concerts, a music workshop day we will hold in April, or even having us over for a house concert!
Thanks so much for reading, and don't hestitate to contact us via this page or our website or social media pages if you have any questions. The video above features rough mixes of some of the tracks, to give you a taster!

Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges:
Albums are expensive things to make, which is always a risk and a challenge as professional musicians. We are completely independent artists and, although we release our records via a record label, we receive no financial capital to make our albums. Making albums in the folk scene, as ever, mostly relies on us selling physical copies to you - at gigs, or online or in your local music shop. Essentially, this campaign bridges a gap for us and is a way of us fast-tracking that process, so that we have enough financial capital to actually make and print the CDs and get them to you - and you also get the album as soon as it's ready rather than having to wait for the official release.
A few notes on the rewards:
Rewards aren't rolling - you get the specific reward(s) you pledge for, as opposed to that reward and everything 'below' it. You can also pledge to support us without specifying a reward.
Digital copies of the music: if you purchase a reward that has an album included and you would like the digital files, we'll be happy to provide you with them.
House Concerts: these will need to fit in with our touring schedule so it may take a bit of time to find a date that will work for everyone, but we will try hard to make it happen as soon as possible! We love house concerts.
Tickets: all tickets are 'subject to availability' in the case of, for example, a gig being sold out before you tell us you'd like to come.
