We already have a number of steps completed before this campaign even started. James Romansky (Author) and Troy Stegner (Editor) have the second issue written and edited. Our team also has our cover artist lined up already; The talented Jaime Carrillo has been with us since day one and painted the cover we used for the first issue. If you recognize his name it's because he has done extensive art for Heavy Metal Magazine, worked with John Carpenter, created artwork for Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Perfect Circle, and more.
Our core team has already produced the first chapter our story. We have experience creating a world through written word and strokes of a pencil and brush. We want to continue doing so for those who have received and enjoyed the world we created. Our first issue can be purchased in print, or digitally on ComiXology.
Our story follows Talia Morgenstern as she's thrust into a world of secret organizations in a war to control ancient artifacts. These artifacts are activated by people possessing particular DNA attributes calling themselves Heirs.
Buried in forgotten rubble outside Gaza lays a weapon, one of many, from a time mankind cannot remember. A lost past covered by the sand of myth and legend. Talia defends her home with the IDF, Israeli Defense Force. She has dedicated her life to protecting Israel from a conflict that too often turns toward the innocent.
Her unit discovers a foreign military in unfamiliar uniforms digging in the desert: they are devastated by the chance meeting with the agents of the Russian Orthodox Artifact Regency or ROAR. The agents, Gavril and Vitoria, utilize technology that has rarely ever been seen, murdering the unprepared soldiers.
Talia along with two others, Jacob Kaufman and Eli Harel, are thrust into a world of secret societies and individuals waging a war over ancient artifacts that can be activated into dangerous weaponry. The origin of these artifacts is debated through theology, science, and spiritualism; all claiming their belief is the correct one.
Talia finds that she is among the descendants of those who are able to activate this ancient technology. She is among a population of Heirs, once seen as demigods, prophets, and angels in generations past. She and the survivors of her unit are given the opportunity to seek justice as members of the IHA, the International Heir Alliance, an organization made up of differing ideologies, religions, and beliefs with the sole purpose of seeking out relics and keeping them out of nefarious hands.
Talia, her friends, and an enigmatic spy named Cohen, combat ROAR and its war for supremacy while being hunted by the two deadliest Heirs they have at their disposal. As tensions grow between the IHA and ROAR, a host of other organizations and individuals with their own intentions complicate the work Talia and the IHA are trying to accomplish.
The secrets of the past will be uncovered leaving the world in a tumult; both Heir and human blood will spill in an effort to find the truth and the gods of old will walk again.
Below are the first few pages (Penciled and Inked by Chris Shehan, the interior artist of the first issue) of our first issue to give you a sense of the quality we want to follow up with your help by a new interior artist.
The funding we receive from our contributors will go toward commissioning a talented interior artist to bring to life the second chapter of our science fiction epic. Funding will also be used to cover printing costs of the second issue, as well as any Issue one, and art print rewards for you, the contributors.
Risks and challenges
Many independent books have issues with finding talented people who are in it for the long haul. In our case, the creators, the concept artist, cover artist, and author are enthralled with the stories we are trying to tell. So much so, in fact, that we produced the first issue on our own. As mentioned before we have already written and edited the second installment of our story. We also have our cover artist ready and willing. These steps we took prior to our Kickstarter project enable us to cut down on the delays as much as we can.
We are currently in search of a sequential artist. There can be delays in the search but we have narrowed it down to three artists who, we feel, can handle the grittiness and feel for the world we present in the writing.
As with any art form, it is subjective, however, our first issue has been well received from readers both online and those who purchased hard copies. We trust that our story transcends our genre. We want to leave you conflicted, heartbroken, horrified, and ultimately satisfied. We aim for a story that leaves you with raw emotions but also entertained with heart-pumping action. We want you to feel connected to characters, characters you know you should hate but love. At its core, our story is one of humanity, realistic and relatable characters that ground our story in the overall fantastic world we present.
The largest risk for you is our deadline. Artists get sick, printers break, and editing takes time, but we hope to stick to our promises as closely as possible by preempting and anticipating our artistic, printing, and shipping needs.
For us, the most daunting risk is to not hit our goal, but we know if it doesn't happen here, it will happen down the road some way else.We all have stories to tell, whether those stories be inked, or sketched, or written, and we're driven to tell them.
