About this project
The weekly ledger builds a life long habit of tracking money. This is the first step to financial literacy and making smart spending decisions!
There are 3 learning activities in the book. Spend quality time with your kids and teach them important life lessons! #parentingwin
Going to the bank can be intimidating for kids, but the Piggy Bank Book will make it easy and fun for them!
List the things that are worth saving for! Learning how to prioritize their wants will help them manage their money as grown ups!
Kids need a little bit of help thinking about other sometimes. The Piggy Bank Book has a special place for them to write down gifts they want to give... maybe one day you'll get a mother's day gift you didn't have to buy yourself!
Thank you! We are 100% funded in our 1st WEEK! People DO think financial literacy is important, it's not just me...
Taking my kids to the store was a constant battle and guaranteed some major temper tantrums. I didn’t want to bring them with me any more, but that wasn’t the solution. I had to find a way to teach them how to control their buying impulses and develop smart spending habits!
The Piggy Bank Book is my cure for the shopping tantrums. By taking the book with us to shop, I now have a tool to redirect my kids’ attention. When one of them asks for a new toy or gadget instead of saying “no” I tell them to write it down in their Piggy Bank Book. It solves two problems, we leave the store without a meltdown... and I am teaching them smart spending habits!
Building a habit is all about repetition. With the help of my friend and favorite designer, Jackie, we created fun and easy ledger pages. The ledger pages are used once a week to track incoming and outgoing money. They are easy to follow and help your child create a habit that will benefit them for life!
The Piggy Bank Pouch is designed out of necessity. In order for my kids to understand that when they spend money there will be less money left, I lugged around their quart containers full of change and dollar bills. While this worked for the kids, it was cumbersome for me. The Pouch allows my kids to carry their money and it fits nicely in my bag!
SHARE the Piggy Bank Book Campaign and we'll e-mail you a PDF to get started NOW!
We feel strongly that kids today deserve the skills to make them financially responsible adults. We know the ledger pages can have a positive impact on a child's future. If you share our campaign on your social media channel and send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org we'll send you a PDF booklet to print out and get started!
Why Paper: Many people have asked us, “Why are you developing a paper product instead of an app?” Money is already an abstract concept for most people, especially kids. We feel that starting with a paper ledger and keeping your money in the pouch with the book makes it tangible for kids. Studies show that writing is more useful in forming habits. We hope that by creating a ledger that is fun, easy and designed to be used once a week, all our kids will develop healthy money habits.
Thanks for checking out the Piggy Bank Book! We hope you'll consider making a pledge to bring financial literacy to more kids. After all, the more kids who grow up to chase dreams instead of paychecks the better off we'll all be!
Risks and challenges
We have been lucky enough to have the money to create prototypes of both the book and the pouch. Our manufacturers are trusted and ready to scale.
This will be our second Kickstarter and we learned a lot about shipping and logistics. We are confident that once we get the Books and Pouches in hand we will be able to ship promptly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
