OK, so I'm launching this Kickstarter campaign because I want to raise the money needed to make my debut album. But that's nothing new, there's plenty of great musicians out their wanting to do the same thing But for me this is more than just an album. There's always been a gap between artists and their fans, whether they're musicians, writers, film makers, whatever their discipline, there's always been this gap between the people that make art and the people that enjoy it. But with sites like Kickstarter that gap is constantly getting smaller. We're no longer working in an industry where something is passed from one person to another but instead where something is contributed too and experienced by everyone around it. In fact we always have this idea that the music industry in dying but I don't think it is, I think it's actually really healthy, it's just changed and it's in this change that I want to create.
So I want to make a record of two halves. I love the way music and image compliment each other and how one is so often enhanced by the other so I want to make a record that is on one hand a normal album, put the CD in the player and you get a record, but on the other a story, of the creation of the album, of the ideas and emotions that go into the album and of creativity itself. This means that these two halves will be experienced as one whole record, both complimenting each other, both containing great music and both telling a story. The feel of the record itself is going to walk delicately between acoustic singer songwriter and ambient music. I'm influenced by a wide range of music as far reaching as Nick Drake and Noah Gundersen to ambient pioneers like Brian Eno and modern greats like Sigur Ros and Ólafur Arnalds. I've been deeply enthralled in this mixture of sounds for years now and I feel that it's time to further explore the music I've got bouncing around my head.
I began this journey last year when I released an EP called Entrance To Trains and now I want to explore deeper what else I can create in this interesting creative time we're living in. The money you donate will go to the production process as a whole, from studio time to making sure the package feels great in your hands to launching the album properly, in the company of the people that helped make it happen. If you want to hear more of my music then check out the files below, these three tracks from Entrance To Trains show my music in it's most basic form, what I'm writing now I envision to be more complex but at it's very core everything still has this stripped back, almost naked soul.
Thank you for viewing my project and I hope I've inspired you to get involved.
Risks and challenges
It's true that every project has it's difficulties and challenges but after years of training and working in music and particularly in recording I believe I'm well placed to tackle the challenges this project faces. I've spent around thirteen years studying, training and working in music and recording, as an engineer and a performer and I've also worked on and managed huge projects before such as albums. I know the sort of challenges that come up, like problems in the studio, getting everyone in the right place at the right time and constantly shifting schedules and I know I can handle these problems as they arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
