About this project
OUR FINAL HOURS ARE UPON US
Our final hours are now upon us. You asked for it - so here they are: New backer tiers! We're proud to announce that we can now 3D print the Black Jack, courtesy of Sandboxr. Arriving just hours before the end of our campaign, you could say Sandboxr's assistance literally came at the nick of time. We're still ironing out the details, but here's what been confirmed. The Black Jack will be available in two sizes: 2.5 inches tall, and 6 inches tall. The model will be fully painted with the textures and will be in the same pose as you see in the demonstration.
As such, we now have three new backer tiers! Want a 2.5 inch 3D figure of the Black Jack, but strapped for money? With the $50 "AIR MAN" tier, we can get you the Black Jack, and an assortment of other digital goodies. If you want the 2.5 inch Black Jack along with our basic tier physical rewards, than the $100 "ACE PILOT" tier is for you. Finally, for those of you who need the real deal, we've once again opened the $500 tier "HERO OF JUSTICE" - now with a whopping six inch tall 3D printed Black Jack replacing the custom dakimakura and the custom ship.
Or are you one of those people who want to reduce clutter? Introducing Digital Tier Mark II! Pulverize the enemy with your new invasion drones. Board the enemy with invasion drones, and turn their own ships against them. And that's not all! Become part of the Sunrider mythos by naming a side character, a planet, a ship, or a locale! Your name will be recorded in the Sunrider lore for eternity. And to round it all off, the Mark II also includes a digital version of a pre-designed dakimakura cover. ;)
ADDING A 2.5 INCH BLACK JACK IF YOU'VE ALREADY PLEDGED: Already pledged, and want a 3D printed Black Jack? Just up your pledge by $40 and send us a message and we'll add a 2.5 inch Black Jack to your award! Our journey may seem over, but in reality, it has only just begun. This is only the first step of the Sunrider's long journey home. We hope that you'll all be with us when we finally arrive.
In an alternate universe to our own, humanity has subjugated all other life in the galaxy and spread throughout the stars. However, peace is a forgotten state of existence. PACT, a revolutionary front, has toppled the once mighty New Empire and is spreading throughout the galaxy. Led by the mysterious Veniczar S. Arcadius and his cult of personality, PACT appears intent on dominating every human being in the galaxy.
You are Captain Kayto Shields of the starship Sunrider. Hailing from the neutral world of Cera, you are thrown onto the galactic stage when your world is invaded by PACT. Your mission: To find allies from across the galaxy and stop the PACT menace once and for all. To accomplish your goal, you will have to fight a one ship struggle against a vast galactic power. Forge alliances with other nations. Befriend supporters. Build your mecha squadron, and tend to your mecha pilots' needs. Win the affection of your crew... or their disapproval! Your decisions will impact not only your crew's impression of you, but the fate of the galaxy!
A childhood friend of the captain and one year his senior, Ava Crescentia served as an older sister figure to Kayto for much of his early life. Reunited after eight years of separation as her superior officer, Kayto’s new relationship with Ava can only be called awkward. Ava’s uncompromising professionalism is matched only by her cold willingness to do whatever is necessary to win the war.
A self declared hero of justice, Asaga wanders the galaxy doing oddjobs for the cause of freedom, justice, and a little money on the side. Despite her apparent lack of maturity, she is an ace pilot and can fly as easily as she walks. She possesses an eternally optimistic disposition and has a strong “can do” attitude.
Shy and bookish, Chigara prefers tinkering with gadgets over most forms of human interaction. She has a bashful but cute personality and prefers to avoid the spotlight if at all possible. However, Chigara’s savant level intelligence and her innate talent with technology places her at the center of attention. Notwithstanding her talents, Chigara’s dream in life is to open a bakery shop and assume a life of normalcy… far away from any galactic heroics.
A feared space pirate, Cosette’s name is reviled through most of civilized space. She entered the life of crime starting at birth and now assumes control of much of the galaxy’s marauding pirate gangs. Despite her infamy, she is a folk hero among the poor for her brazen attacks on the richest nations in the galaxy. However, her brutal methods of retaining power and her merciless attacks on civilian vessels make her an unquestionable villain to most of civilized society.
A tough mercenary from the rough quarters of the galaxy, Icari has a no-nonsense attitude about life. Icari was thrust into the harsh world of piracy when her parents were murdered by a PACT captain in her childhood. She developed a proficiency for close quarters combat and became one of the most formidable assassins in the galaxy. Her services are now sought by crime lords and world leaders alike. Icari handles the dirty business of the galaxy’s nations with a hardened heart. Deep down, she regrets the life she now leads and lives only for one purpose: to find her parents’ murderers and avenge their deaths.
The acting medical officer on board the Sunrider. Her medical credentials seem questionable, but seeing how the Sunrider had to leave port without a doctor, she’s the best the Sunrider has. Has a few screws loose in her head, and prone to forgetting things. It seems like the only reason she’s on board is to get into the captain's pants, err... medical examinations. She’s an ostensible ryder pilot, but has issues with motion sickness and reaction times. Generally unreliable, but has insanely good luck.
A young lieutenant in the Solar Alliance Fleet, Kriska is the Alliance’s liaison officer on board the Sunrider. As an Alliance citizen, Kriska’s presence is generally unwelcome on board the Sunrider. Groomed to be an Alliance officer from childhood, Kriska is fiercely proud of the Alliance and believes it to be the greatest nation on galaxy. Kriska is highly idealistic about the Alliance and is eager to share the Alliance’s democratic ideals and technical know-how with the “lesser” nations of the galaxy. The rest of the crew eye her with suspicion, but the Captain is generally appreciative of Kriska, and the Alliance’s, support.
Silent, yet deadly. When the going gets tough and the Sunrider gets trapped in moments of peril, the team can always count on the soft spoken Sola to turn the tide of battle with a few well placed sniper shots - probably from behind an asteroid over 100 000 kilometers away from the action. Her accomplishments include once sniping the wings off a Ryuvian sparrow from Ryuvia’s second moon. A girl of few words, Sola keeps her distance from everyone but the captain. In battle, her aim is unparalleled by anyone on the team.

Risks and challenges
I have been an independent game developer for about five years. I will be blunt - anyone who guarantees 100% a project will be completed is lying. I've seen my own and other people's projects fail countless times for every reason under the moon - whether it be a hard drive failure, to family problems, to new real life responsibilities. The reality of indie game development is that everything we do is risky, and ultimately, the project director must bear most of the unexpected financial expenses that arise during development. Therefore, I cannot guarantee 100% that Sunrider will be completed, even if the funding is successful.
However, I believe I am in the best position to see this ship to port. I've already completed one ambitious visual novel - Homeward. I have years of experience making visual novels and know most of the common pitfalls. I do not have any naive expectations that making Sunrider will be easy - I expect it to be difficult, with countless setbacks and endless frustrations. Despite that, I love Sunrider as much as I would my own child, and will give everything I have to see it done. I am the captain of this ship, and I will not abandon it, even if I go down with the ship. (Figuratively)
Our task at Love in Space is great - we will make the most epic, galactic adventure known to the visual novels, and then we will release it for free. Your contribution will go a long way to make that dream come true.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
