Update #29 - The Alpha Is Now Live For All

Posted by Big Robot (Creator)

Hello there! Sir's alpha build has arrived for all, and Kickstarter (and Paypal) backers can now get their builds of the game over at Humble Store.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not the final build. We're aiming for monthly updates from here, until it's done, but you can jump in and play and let us know what you think.

Getting the game is very simple. Go to and enter the email you used to back the game, either for your Kickstarter login, or your Paypal account. Login details will then be emailed to you.

Steam keys will also be available as soon as we're able to provide them.

Any problems, you can hit the forum:

Physical rewards have also started to ship this week, so backers of higher tiers can expect some goodies soon. The grimoire and soundtrack are going to arrive a bit further into this alpha, as we generate more material for the game.

 Love you!

I'm a bit late, but I've now finished the present build and thought I should comment. This game is LOVELY. Just watching time pass with the shadow effects in the sky (from tree branches or even crows) is amazing. I'm sure I'll be thrilled by each new version, too, what with all the material I know you have to add.

Obviously, people noted the need for volume controls, but I think it's important to make quiet sounds (footsteps, ambient bits, and so on) louder universally, or loud sounds (gunshots and the death music) quieter universally. As it is, if I want volume low enough to have my eardrums survive sudden violence (a common occurrence), I cannot hear any of your lovely quiet sounds.

I believe "Detail Density" is imbalanced. If I raise the slider above zero for a better impression of grass density, the eye-level branches and shrubs become blindingly thick. It looks like I'd be invisible, as surely I couldn't see a single enemy through this, but the enemies see me easily and thus break the logic. I suggest not allowing eye-level material to become so thick.

And you may have biscuits, but you don't have scones. I feel "stale scones" are an important addition to such a game.

Anyway, you can probably tell these are the thoughts of someone who loves the content and just wants to see it get even better. Which is true!

I'm enjoying the game so far, it doesn't work exactly the way I expected but it's very interesting. I think though that the Robots are somewhat difficult to escape, they seem to have perfect accuracy when firing weapons despite me hiding, crouching and running. Even serpentine doesn't work!

Last comment, I know in the preview of the game going to houses and finding items was as it is in the alpha. Still, there is a part of me that every door I approach I'm hoping to open and use more traditional search and pick up routines rather than emptying the house in one go. It also seems to me that the houses can be hiding places.

I realize that may not be what you want to hear, as it's a lot of work to make interiors, and scatter objects within randomly placed - but that is the urge I feel in an immersive environment.

Still, well done, enjoyable and interesting.

A lot of fun already with it. I really appreciate that the devs understood how to condense a kind of stealth/tactics game into its basic elements and built up a procedurally generated world for it as well, based on the limited budget available. Too often now I'm seeing KS projects fail or fall behind behind devs thought they could go AAA on a shoestring budget. There are obvious shortcuts such as making the world a basic treasure hunt, but that's understandable. No time or funding to make a really elaborate quest and nothing more is really needed anyway.

I'm currently playing it on low settings as only have access to a year old laptop with a GT630M but it still looks acceptable and fluid and more importantly, has the right atmosphere. I think with tweaking this video card could probably be made to work well on medium settings, but considering the game is alpha, it's still pretty good.

Absolutely awesome. The AI of these robots is impressive. They don't always follow the shortest path. One snuck around a building to get me as I was waiting for him to come in the opposite direction.

When the dogs tackle me, it almost seems friendly, unlike other games where the dog tries to bite your head off. Oh look, I tackled you - back to my master now!

Great game! I have a blast playing it, even in it's current state (really stable for me however) !

So...Much...Dying! Thanks you guys, it's awesome to get my hands on this, and those squires are pretty brutal! Excellent work so far.

Cheers guys, going to check it out soon. :)

Hello, I tried sending a message, but I guess it was never received. I no longer have access to the email I used when I backed last year, and since then have changed my email. I received the email telling me to collect my key at humble bundle, but when I entered my email into humble bundle they said they have no keys for me. Is there a chance it got sent to my old email? Thanks.

I'm having a blast so far (dying is fun!).

I have one minor issue though, I can't seem to find a volume control. Is this me being blind or just something not implemented yet?
If the latter is the case, I would suggest it for one of the next builds :)

    13. ExecutionGlitch

      Yes! At last! :D
I haven't had much time to play this, but I had a blast while I could. And this coming from someone who really isn't good at anything stealth-based. Even for an Alpha, it has really good atmosphere.
Those robots are crafty little of them nearly gave me a heart-attack by sneaking up on me while I cowered behind a tree. Needless to say that encounter didn't go well.
The one problem I've encountered is stability. When I try to run it on full-screen it has a fit. Other than that, everything seems to be working fine. :]

    14. Harmonica on

This game is a lot of fun.

All I can say is: wow!

Even though I'd seen the youtube videos for this game, to actually be walking around this gorgeous world is incredible - the little details on the village signs are great fun (Spotted a nice League of Gentlemen reference on one :) )

Not managed to get very far in the 10 minutes I've played so far: When I saw a robot I just walked up to him to see how he looked and moved. Well done guys!

As with all these new games, it pays to watch a couple of let's play videos on youtube before diving in unless you truly want to experience the pain of not knowing what to do :)

I'm loving it! Very alpha, of course, but there's already a tremendous sense of atmosphere in the game. But man, for a first-timer, this game be HARD, yo!

    18. light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on

I was only able to play for 5 minutes this morning before leaving for work.. but it is so wonderful to get in the game and walk around a little bit :) Not quite sure what I have to do, other than the main objective, at this point.. but I'm sure with more than 5 minutes to play after work, I'll work it out :)

    19. alex on

      I love you too.

Woop :) , the noise that balloon makes when it spots you is like an audio assault to the ears, shat myself lol.

@gandalf.nho: no, if you have backed, it's now opened to all backers (at least those who have pledged enough to receive the game after completion).

This alpha access is only for the £30 tier and higher, no?

"Steam keys will also be available as soon as we're able to provide them."

Great news! Downloading it now. I also saw it is on Steam right now in the early access program. Any chance we also get a Steam key through Humble store?
