Here's one last, BIG final day announcement!
As we conclude our final day of the CRYPT OF SCREAMS Kickstarter, I'm humbled and pleased to announce that this campaign has the highest number of backers of any campaign that I've ever run! Because all of you have been so incredibly supportive through your pledges, I want to give you a little something as a way of saying "Thank you." No, it's not a Stretch Goal, but a FREE reward...
A brand-new, Crypt of Screams Oracle Card for all backers with mailed rewards! It's just a little something to let you know how much I appreciate what all of you have done for me in the past two years, and for helping to make my dream of self-publishing a reality!
In addition to the new Oracle Card, all 5 of the previous Sarcophagus Stretch Goals have been unlocked, so all backers with mailed rewards will be receiving collectible promo trading cards of Ragdoll, Countess Bathory, the Siren (from the upcoming DAUGHTERS OF THE DARK ORACLE: BEAST FROM THE BRINE mini-series), the Wolfwoman, and Madame Sabina, all colored by the incredible Ceci de la Cruz!
Also in our final day, check out these updates:
(Below is a closer look at the Wolfwoman trading card image. If you think this is something, wait until you see the nude version that will be appearing as a DAUGHTERS OF THE DARK ORACLE comic cover in the near future!)
NOW... On to the campaign!
Greetings, horror lovers. You may call me Brother Miedo, and I am the gatekeeper of the CRYPT OF SCREAMS. Mike Wolfer has asked that I guide you through this campaign, which is designed to raise the money necessary to transform my heart-stopping tales of terror into works of illustrated fiction. That's me on the cover below, rendered by Wolfer and colorist Ceci de la Cruz. I'm the handsome one in the dark cloak.
In the early 1970s, Wolfer's first introduction to mature comics was the black and white horror magazines published by Warren Publishing Company (EERIE, CREEPY, VAMPIRELLA), and Skywald Publications (PSYCHO, SCREAM, NIGHTMARE). Those magazines made an indelible mark of Wolfer's psyche, and were the inspiration for his career in comics that began in 1987.
Through a special arrangement with me, Brother Miedo, Wolfer will be creating illustrated versions of the frightening fables that I've gathered over the centuries, and the whole cauldron of creepiness will be published by American Mythology Productions as a quarterly, black and white comic, beginning in September 2016.
WHAT HORRORS LURK INSIDE "CRYPT OF SCREAMS"?
When the 32-page CRYPT OF SCREAMS #1 hits comic book shops, it will feature three stories, all written and illustrated by Mike Wolfer. Issue #1 opens with "Speed Demon," a Old West tale of revenge, responsibility, and a horrific pact from Hell. The hauntingly beautiful "The Pond" tells the heartbreaking story of a young woman with a terrifying secret, and her fateful encounter with a mysterious, dark stranger. Next is "A Silver Lining," a good, old-fashioned, Gothic horror offering set within the walls of a mansion, whose corridors are stalked by a blood-thirsty werewolf. But the Kickstarter Edition that you can only get here will include an additional, giant monster tale ("Burnout") that won't be found in the newsstand edition, making the Kickstarter Edition a big 40 pages!
To give you an idea of the quality and style of the interior artwork, here is a sampling of some of Wolfer's work from the pages of DAUGHTERS OF THE DARK ORACLE. These are the kinds of gorgeous graphics you'll find in CRYPT OF SCREAMS...
If you are a collector, you'll find that there are several available Kickstarter editions of CRYPT OF SCREAMS #1: The regular, autographed edition (seen at the top of this page) and the signed and numbered Blacklight Edition (below), which will be limited to the number of backers. And there's also the Bonus Code Edition, but more on that later. You'll also be able to obtain an all-new, 24-page, full-color pin-up book titled MIKE WOLFER'S GALLERY OF MONSTERS, featuring creatures of all kinds from Wolfer's various comics series. The GALLERY OF MONSTERS will also be signed and numbered, and limited to the number of backers
THOSE TERRIFYING, TANTALIZING REWARDS
Now, come through the cemetery gates and walk with me through the various rewards levels that Wolfer is offering. I'm sure that you'll find something to satisfy your craving for fear! First, we have the "Cemetery Levels," where you will find your basic rewards. The more money you pledge, the more gruesome goodies get added to your rewards packages!
Mike, here: Let me interrupt Brother Miedo for a minute. First, let's take a closer look at that t-shirt. You'll see that the skull is constructed from dozens of scary words and the names of a myriad of supernatural creatures. Are your favorites among them?
You'll also notice that at the $25 level, I add a CRYPT OF SCREAMS Oracle Card.
What is an "Oracle Card," you ask? These are similar to Tarot cards, and can be mixed and matched to create all kinds of interesting, scrying scenarios, for amusement only. The cards measure 8.5" x 5.5" and come in a variety of styles. With each Kickstarter campaign that I run, I offer a few new cards, which you can order individually as Add-Ons. You can see them all in the graphic below. If you want to add cards, simply increase your pledge by the amount of money needed for the cards that you want, then send me a message telling me what you would like added to your rewards package.
Are you quite finished peddling your make-believe magic, Wolfer?
Sorry, Brother Miedo. Please continue.
I realize that there are many of you out there who are not collectors, but simply enjoy reading. If that describes you, here is a level that you might find interesting, containing the addition of the Mike Wolfer-written THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT #1, which is published by American Mythology Productions, the same lunatics who will be releasing CRYPT OF SCREAMS upon the unsuspecting public.
The following offerings are the Mausoleum Levels. Here, you will find the standard rewards, but with a few extra prizes attached.
Next, please turn your attention to the Vault Levels, wherein we will find dusty, old horror classics in convenient, complete sets, all autographed by Wolfer, himself.
(Personally, I don't see what the big attraction is, having your comic covers defaced by Wolfer's scribbled name, but to each his own.)
Next, we pry open the lids of the Coffin Levels to reveal the incredible trade paperback collections which you can get at a fraction of their regular prices!
Now... NOW we have two levels that almost defy description. These are the Curios of the CRYPT OF SCREAMS collection, two incredible rewards that the most die-hard of horror fans will not be able to live without!
The Baby Bathory doll was hand-crafted by the talented Veronica of Biohazard Babies, and is a ONE-OF-A-KIND creation! Veronica's creepy doll work has been seen on the screen in prominent horror features, and now YOU can own one of her cutest and most blood-soaked Biohazard Babies! (I have met Countess Bathory, and believe Brother Miedo... This doll is a very accurate representation of her.) You can find more of Veronica's work at www.etsy.com/shop/BiohazardBabies.
Below Baby Bathory, you will see a reward with which I take personal issue. Somewhere, somehow, Wolfer has managed to get his grubby hands on a piece of one of my old cloaks, and has diced it up and is offering 20 pieces of it to the rabid collectors among you. This musty cloak fragment comes sealed in a plastic case along with an exclusive, autographed trading card and a small, numbered certificate. Remember- Only 20 of these sets will be made available, and I cannot guarantee that I will not one day come looking for those who have the audacity to steal from Brother Miedo!
The final level is perhaps the most unique of all. With the $275 Commission Level, you will receive all of the rewards from the $60 level (autographed regular edition and S&N Blacklight Edition of CRYPT OF SCREAMS, the Oracle Card, the S&N edition of GALLERY OF MONSTERS, t-shirt), plus an original, 11" x 17" art commission by Mike Wolfer! The piece he draws for you will later be used as a cover or art print, and the first time it is printed, your name will be listed in the credits as the owner of the original art! The graphic below will tell you more about the horrific heroines you can choose as your subject matter.
If you have any questions about the kind of scenes or characters available, send a direct message to Mike for clarification.
Speaking of me, it's Mike, again! One thing about commissions: I'm notorious for running several months behind when completing commissions. So many things come up that are unforeseen, and day-to- day business concerns seem to dominate so much of my time. I've set the delivery date for commissions for this campaign at December, but depending on how many backers choose this level, it might take a little longer to deliver your original art. As anyone who has gotten a Deluxe Commission from me knows, these are high-quality, and not just hacked-out headshots or sketchy, gesture drawings. They're very meticulously inked and detailed, so it takes me a while to complete each one. Below is an example of what you might get, a recent commission that I completed of the Heidi, the Wolfwoman. On the left is a censored version that will see print, but on the right is the nude version that the backer requested. (This nude version will probably see print as a variant somewhere down the line.)
Next up is territory that's more my area of expertise, so I'll continue on if Brother Miedo doesn't mind...
With every Kickstarter campaign that I run, I like to offer additional items that you can add to your pledge rewards, so that your package will be tailor-made to your liking! First on the list of Add-Ons are digital PDFs of my previous works. Simply add the corresponding amount to your pledge, and you'll receive a link to my Dropbox, where you can download your very own PDF of your books. No messing around with download codes or third-party web sites. You get your PDFs directly from me!
Next up are print copies! INTERNATIONAL BACKERS, PLEASE NOTE: Because of the weight that print copies will add to your rewards package, additional postage will be required. You can send me a message and tell me what you'd like, and I'll give you an exact amount to add to your pledge that includes shipping. Backers with U.S. addresses do not need to add additional shipping costs.
Many of these books are getting dangerously close to being sold out, so if you've been holding back on completing your collection, now is probably a good time to act, while everything is still in stock!
And check this out! I can't tell you how proud I am to be the writer of American Mythology's THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT, officially licensed by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., so I want everyone to be able to get their hands on a copy of #1, autographed by me. You can add this to any level you pick, for an additional $15, or grab it in the $45 "The Level That Time Forgot."
You've almost forgotten the Bonus Code Edition. Stand aside, you fool...
BONUS CODE EDITION
Let it not be said that Mike Wolfer doesn't pull out all the stops when it comes to creating innovative and unique rewards. Perfect evidence of this is the BONUS CODE EDITION Program.
Bonus Code Editions are incredibly rare variants that Wolfer makes available with each Kickstarter campaign that he runs, but the catch is that you can ONLY get the Bonus Code Edition if you have previously become a member of the program. In other words, to get the book that you see above, you must have already acquired a "Bonus Code" for $20 during one of Wolfer's previous campaigns, which you can now redeem for the CRYPT OF SCREAMS Bonus Code Edition.
Bonus Code Editions have a print run limited to the number of backers who redeem previously acquired Bonus Codes. In fact, the Bonus Code Edition of the FANGS OF THE WIDOW ANNUAL was limited to only 3 COPIES! Now that's rare! So, those of you who already have Bonus Codes, be sure to grab your CRYPT OF SCREAMS Bonus Code Edition by sending Wolfer a message telling him that you would like to redeem your code. And for those of you who are new to the concept, you can add $20 to your pledge amount NOW, and this will entitle you to get the Bonus Code Edition book that will be available in one of Wolfer's upcoming Kickstarters, such as DAUGHTERS OF THE DARK ORACLE: SONG OF THE SIREN, coming this fall!
Obviously, Brother Miedo has had enough of this silliness, since he's drifting off, back through the cemetery toward the Crypt of Screams. But, yes, naturally there will be Stretch Goals, if we're able to reach our goal! If you've been a backer of any of my previous campaigns, you know that I love cooking up crazy stuff for Stretch Goal rewards, because that's where the real fun starts. And remember- All backers with mailed rewards receive every Stretch Goal that's unlocked.
In closing, thanks for your time and consideration, and if you like what you see here and become a backer, please share this campaign with others who might enjoy graphic, gothic horror, or who might be fans of those old, classic magazines from the 1970s. Rewards will ship in the month of October, just in time for Halloween! NOTE: Shipment of rewards will coincide with the in-store release of the retail edition of CRYPT OF SCREAMS #1, so the book might go on sale at your local comic shop before you get yours in the mail. However, the copies that you get will be autographed and include a bonus, fourth terror tale, and you'll be getting all of those additional goodies like Stretch Goal rewards, so no matter how you look at it, when you're a backer, YOU WIN!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
