Stages of Product Development

Our road for making IKKUT a reality started during December, 2013. We began by establishing our goal: to create an innovative product that provides a unique experience for interacting with a computer. We also decided on the format for the product, with a full 40” area to work with thanks to a transparent glass surface.

During January, we created a prototype from wood and polycarbonate in order to work on several tests for the ideal positioning distance from which to project to the display, as well as on where and how it should be placed on the structure.

In February, we went to the ISE2014 fair in Amsterdam (Holland). This allowed us to contact all the suppliers in order to test all the available multiTouch technologies in situ. This helped us decide on the technology to use: IRFrame - reliable, precise and easy to configure.

Once March arrived, we were ready to manufacture the podium with a standard process, but the uniqueness of the project required an exclusive frame. After several sketches and redesigns, IKKUT starts to move closer to its final form.

By April, we had manufactured an iron structure with two laser-cut legs along with some crossbeams to create our first prototype. After assembling it, we added side flaps to improve the structure, and we designed the support for the projector. With everything in place, we work on our first test for implementing the IRFrame technology to interact with a computer, with encouraging results. The podium’s size, as well as being able to interact without using a keyboard, makes it an ideal product for multimedia and multi-touch apps.

In May, we painted the prototype. With a textured matte black finish, the contrast between the stainless steel and the 6 mm tempered glass gives the product a particularly unique and elegant touch with a dash of technology.

And then, the greatest thing happened in June: we finally launched our Kickstarter campaign for IKKUT.
