[This is Dave posting] "... take my wallet ..." I hope everybody understands that the 'feline transportation' print visible in those photos is not part of our Ukiyoe Heroes series, and indeed, is not something that I can sell.
I cut those blocks back in 1990 for use in a children's activity day as part of a local Culture Festival. We put the blocks out on a table together with brushes and pigments, and kids had a blast making their own prints on them. I never approached Studio Ghibli for permission, as there was never any intention to do anything commercial. Nowadays, the blocks sit here, and are just used for occasions like this one, when we need to give people a chance to try printmaking for themselves.
It's kind of on my 'to do list' to one day contact the Ghibli people to see if they would cooperate with a licensing arrangement for our workshop to put out some proper prints based on their characters. One day ...
Awesome, now where can I get that Studio Ghibli woodblock. Take my wallet!!!!
