Treasure Trove Fantasy RPG Loot packs, coins and gems. (Canceled)
A range of accessories to allow DM's to hand out physical loot to players and enhance gameplay. Bags of gems, coins & treasure chests.
Way back in the 70's as a teenager when my group of friends first started playing this great new game called Dungeons and Dragons I had an idea to hand out stuff to my players, at the time I made some scrolls and mostly paper items to give out as loot.
We then started to make plastic squared sheets for drawing dungeons on and place minis.
More recently, now my kids old enough for D&D we have been making terrain using Hirst Arts moulds, this helps engage them in the game and got me thinking back to making treasure props as a kid myself.
I had a look around and found a couple of kickstarter campaigns producing fantasy coins but they were not really want I had in mind and I also wanted more things to represent treasure, gems and magic items to give my players and something authentic looking to store it all in.
So to achieve this am going to start producing a range of coins and gemstones to hand out, in nice suede and velvet pouches.
The larger pledges will come in hardwood treasure chests, built as a proper chest rather than some flimsy representation of a chest..
Coins wil be struck from zinc alloy to represent platinum (25mm) in a shiny finish, gold (30mm) in shiny, matt and antique finish, Silver (30mm) in shiny, matt and antique finish and Copper in shiny, matt and antique finish.
They will be 2.5mm thick, this gives them a nice weight, I found other coins out there are thinner but this restricts you in the detail the coin can have and it feels like nothing in your hand.
The coins will come in faux suede drawstring bags.
The final coins for gold and platinum will be superior to those shown here, I have samples from 4 manufacturers to choose the best quality supplier, the 3d effect on the platinum is not very good and the detail and finish on the gold is quite poor. I will post updates of the new designs and samples as we progress.
I am playing around with some other designs for dwarven and orcish coins that can hopefully make it into this campaign, if not they will come in the next kickstarter.
Gemstones will be diamond cut crystal, come in 5 sizes and 12 colours (6mm, 12mn, 18mm, 24mm & 30mm). I will be making up a laminated chart where DM's can record the values of each gem. Gems will come in faux suede or velvet drawstring bags. I did not want to be selling plastic gems, this would be cheaper but my feeling is we deserve as realistic as is practical. The gemstones below are from a sample I purchased and cover 8 colours in 6mm, 12mm, 18mm and 24mm.
Treasure chests will be similar to as shown below, they will be made from hardwood (Oak or Maple most likely), have iron bands, corners and padlock hasp. I have asked for them to be solidly constructed and looking like they have seen many years of hard use hauling treasure around (and will stand up to many more years).
X Large 600 x 400 x 350, Large 500 x 300 x 300, Medium 400 x 230 x 230 and Small 330 x 160 x 160. I am open to suggestions if people want the designs tweaked, if its not possible to get those changes included I will take them on-board for the next kickstarter.
Once the campaign is over all items will eventually be available on my ebay store and if things go well I may be tempted into opening a website again.
The range of items will be increasing in the future if sales go well with plastic credit card sized magic item cards, new coins and bars, more gem types and some new chest designs.
Risks and challenges
There should be little risk to funders in this project, I have been trading as an online business for 13 years or so now and operate with no real overheads. I will be putting all my stores available funds into getting this moving right away to produce samples and will be using the kickstarter to allow me to get the volumes I need to ensure we get the right price.
If we significantly pass the target I should be able to get better prices so will be sending out more items in each pledge.
