$100 pledged of $1,000 goal

New York Italians is a 501c3 and seeks to promote the Italian culture, language and heritage. Our new project, EATalian on a budget seeks to promote the Mediterranean Diet to people who don’t usually have access to it. We hope to inspire them to consider it as the most valuable option for a healthy and inexpensive eating choice.

We are in the development phase and would like to invite you to collaborate with us during this exciting time! We are asking for donations to facilitate a series of events. Your funds will purchase ingredients for the cooking lesson/demo. Additionally, each family will bring home ingredients to reproduce the new learned recipe on a budget!

As a donor for our local event you will have a hand in fostering healthy choices for low income families!

Location: Kensington Homeless Shelter- 64 families

Date: April 8, 2017

Event: Luca will give a brief introduction on Italian cooking and on the nature of its healthy options. A very basic and simple demonstration on how to make Italian staple food like pasta will be given. Participants will be able to ask questions and make the class more real by offering their own cooking “problems” to be solved. Possibly this could be the only the first of a series of events, impacting different communities.

Risks and challenges

Our challenge is to ensure that every family that participates can be inspired to make healthy choices. We hope that our gift bag of healthy ingredients will the first step to healthy eating!
