I discover letterpress printing 10 years ago. It basically change my way of designing. My first items were my own business cards, and soon I created a set of 4 coasters to explore the possibilities. Limited (as all my products) they are sold out for a long time.
With first printing, I create prototype of a wood box for a set of 8 coasters, but it never goes further, only 5 were made to see how it looks like.
To celebrate the past 10 years, I decided to reprint the original coasters, create a set of 4 more coasters and an edition of 100 with the wood box as the part of the Kickstarter MAKE 100 project.
The wood box will be strictly limited to 100 copies, and made in France by Thibault Malet, who work with me on other projects. Based on 1st prototype created 10 years ago, he will handmade them in his workshop.
Here is the prototype we did and want to produce.
THE LETTERPRESS PRINTING & STUDIO PRESSION
The coasters will be printed in France, at Studio Pression, my printing partner for the past 6 years. Letterpress printing has the ability to create relief into paper by adding tons of pressure while printing. It’s called deep impression. And it’s done at the same time, printing AND debossing, always one color at a time. The thicker the paper, the deeper the impression. For a crisper effect, we use much harder magnesium plates instead of photopolymer. Here come some pictures of last year printing.
THE LETTERPRESS CALENDAR
Added of the coasters I will add copies of both edition of my 2019 letterpress. They will be send right at the end of the campaign, while the coasters would be produced a little later.
The calendar is created with 11 others worldwide designers, each creates an unique design based on an inspiring sentence.
The STANDARD edition of the calendar comes with black cover with gold and black hot foil, pages are letterpress printed in black on white an grey paper. The DELUXE edition comes with a gold cover with gold and black hot foil, all the pages are hot foil printed on black paper.

Risks and challenges
Every new Kickstarter is challenge, but also an experience. Hope it will be another nice success. I will use backerkit at the end of the campaign to have the address as soon as possible for the calendars and send them as soon as possible. The coasters will be produced according to both Studio Pression and Thibault Malet planning but May seems a good timing, right in time for summer !Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
