Our Stretch Goals
myPowerMate adoptions are the currency! If 2,000 Mate get a new travel companion I am able to offer an extra color (click the button above and choose your favorite one). If 5,000 Mates hit the road all backers will get an high quality travel poach to keep all pieces save and in one place. And there is more: more colors, an upgrade of the flash memory and at the end of the road: a big surprise!
I don't want to decide all the questions on my own. You are an important part of the decision-making. Vote for your favorite colors, cables and features in the online voting.
There is nothing more annoying than tangled or broken cables. So I want a cable clip to store the Mate properly and a high quality cable which you will love to use. Where to store all parts so you don't lose anything? Stay tuned, I got awesome feedback and found a solution :)
I wanted a good deal for my backers, so did some shopping around. I found a reasonable offer for €7 (approx. $7.50) shipping worldwide. But - if you order more than one Mate, I will throw in the shipping for free! This way you can save money and help our community to reach the next stretch goal faster, making myPowerMate better for everyone.
Story and Creator
Last year during a world trip I was faced with the problem of a broken travel adapter. The batteries of my devices were dead, so I had to find a quick solution. I took a pair of pliers and worked on my Australian USB charger until it (somehow) fit into the socket. It worked and I asked myself why nobody ever invented a travel adapter with fully adjustable pins, so that it would fit in every socket. And then spark of inspiration: Wait, I could do this. I could be the one to revolutionize travel adapters.
I started working in technological fields at a young age. Vocational training in metallurgy took me abroad to nearby England, Slovenia and Austria. Studies of Mechanical Engineering followed and I managed major projects in transmission development for German automotive manufacturers. Afterwards I moved further afield where I worked in plastic injection molding and took over the management of a workshop for prototype electronic wheelchairs in Australia.
So the next thing I did was sat in a bamboo hut designing a gadget which would later be named myPowerMate. With 15 years working experience as a mechanical engineer it was possible to finish the theoretical part during the trip. When I came back to Germany the more practical part began. It took me half a year of bureaucratic obstacles, tests and intensive immersion in German quality standards to find out, that my plans were feasible. There was no reason why myPowerMate shouldn't come true. And here it is.
Thank you for reading this far! I hope you are as excited about this project as I am. Please feel free to contact me directly if you want any more information. Risks and challenges
Developing and designing the product was a full-time job for me for the last eight months. But now it's done, and manufacturing will start as soon as this campaign is completed successfully. One set of risks is timeline risks. Parts can arrive late, manufacturing problems can occur, or tests can show that another version is needed before shipping, to ensure you obtain the best possible quality from your myPowerMate. In order to minimize these risks, I am working with experts in their fields. On top I have my personal experience (almost 15 years) in project management and as mechanical engineer. To manage any remaining timeline risks I have already built some buffers into the project plan.
All campaigns have a small remaining risk for unpredictable incidents. I will do everything I can to solve every problem which dares to pop up. I am working tirelessly to make myPowerMate happen, I know what it takes, and I will keep you posted along the way so you can see what happens with your investment. If there are any hiccups, I will let you know immediately!
