The Sleep In Shade Wall
A custom shaped, heat reflective sun-shade. Designed to block the morning sun with no extra poles, ropes, or stakes. The Sleep In Shade Wall weighs less than a pound and easily attaches to your tent with adjustable straps.
Ask anyone who has been tent camping about what time they got up in the morning? You are likely to get a snarky little laugh, and a comment about the sun. That's because modern tents are notorious for becoming a morning sauna. After years of summer camping, where I have seen people try every kind of sun-shade, from flimsy cardboard, to high priced shade structures, I have created a simple and affordable solution.
The Sleep In Shade Wall is guaranteed to upgrade your camping experience! The rounded shape and adjustable straps allow it to fit on almost any dome style tent. 4, 5 or 6 sides? No problem! And if you don't like the shiny "space blanket" look, just put it under your rain fly, it still works great!
How does it work?
What is it made of?
How big is it?
How does it stay in place?
Origin of the Idea
I have been using a simple hand made version of the Sleep In Shade Wall for several years. It did not fit my tent very well, so I always placed it under my rain fly.
I got the idea to manufacture shade walls after waking up happy and content at a festival, and one of my camp-mates asked me how I did it? How did I sleep in, when it was so freaking HOT? I showed him the shiny silver sheet hidden under my rain fly and he said "oh man, I wish I had something like that". The dark circles under his eyes and the envious look he gave me started my imagination. It slowly dawned on me, my simple answer to the morning sun could genuinely improve the camping experience for lots of people, I had to give it try.
Since then, it has been a slow and steady process; finding the right combination of materials, a manufacturer, making prototypes and eventually a video. Step by step, investing the time and effort to get this far. I have built a team that includes friends and associates who have completed successful projects with me in the past and I have made new connections with outstanding professionals, when I needed help. A journey of a thousand steps, so to speak. Each one leading up to this Kickstarter!
Are you ready?
Yes! I have already partnered with a leading tarp manufacturer to produce the first prototypes and made all the connections for delivery to our warehouse and fulfillment. We are ready to make the Sleep In Shade Wall a reality. All I need is your help placing the first order, and we can begin to improve the camping experience for everyone.

Risks and challenges
Of course producing a new product and delivering it to customers has some risks and challenges. My previous work experience with accounting and purchasing has been very helpful, but I don't know everything. So, where my experience was limited, I have hired professionals to help me minimize the risks.
The manufacturer I have partnered with has been in business for ten years and makes millions of tarps each year. Working together, we have created several prototypes, and we are ready for production. They will fabricate the material, make the shade walls and package the product, all under one roof. The Sleep In Shade Wall is already "penciled in" on the factory schedule, so the risks associated with this step are pretty small.
Transportation, warehousing, and fulfillment have been thoroughly planned as well. This step has many small steps that have to go smooth or there will be delays. All the necessary taxes, paperwork, and connections have been triple checked in order to avoid delivery problems. And, I have hired an experienced shipping agent to make sure nothing is overlooked.
Once the order is received at our warehouse there is a risk of getting buried under the first round of fulfillment. In order to avoid any delays at this stage, I have included funds in the budget to cover extra labor costs for two weeks of full time help.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
