About this project
Napalm Studio is proud to launch, on Kickstarter, Afterdark, an audacious project that aspires to “resurrect” the beat’em up genre style of gameplay. Our goal is to extract the best features from the Unity 3D engine, so that we can deliver a top notch release which has excellent gameplay but at the same time features beautiful artwork and in-depth storytelling.
The game will show an epic battle, where heroes fight againts villains. The story will be based on their personal goals and as the story develops, those goals will rise to new objectives connecting all their fates into one direction.
This project is part of the modern concept of “gothic horror”, very appreciated in its various forms.
The conformation of the feeling of fear and how it affects the human being are among the more traditional approaches. And horror is called it's ultimate expression.
The term gothic was applied to a “kind of horror”, where the obscure scenary predominated, tipical in Medieval Europe. Inside this scenary you could find carriages, sinister figures, terrifying creatures, mysteries and haunts.
The story of this game will be initiated into this hostile world, a world where the evil remains unstoppable.
Afterdark: When Heroes Become Legends will be produced with Blender 3D and Unity 3D, those tools will give a great support for the professionals at Napalm Studio to create the adventures inside this horror world.
Napalm Studio is a animation and game studio, is located in Porto Alegre - Brazil. We have a solid structure and experienced professionals that already worked in several console and PC projects. Also, we have importants partnerships to add quality to our project, as the audio studio Audiopéia and the support of ESPM (School of Higher Education in Advertising and Marketing).
Nowadays several game genres are being forgotten, this happens because the industry is focusing only in success franchises around the world, with the intention of lowering the investiment risk. This scenary can be considered normal in this global crisis scenary. We know that the beat'em up genre is a product of a specific niche, that is why we bet on Kickstarter. Where the player can choose whether or not to pay for the game, this way we are not depending on publishers.
We need to raise $110,000 to produce the game in the best way possible.
Everything of the game will be produced from nothing, our artist and programmers will not use any pre-made assets because we want Afterdark to be an unique and amazing experience.
All the production process will be documented, so that all characters and his stories will be thoroughly planned and made. We will use the same dedication and hard work into the construction of the game objects, weapons, scenaries and everything else.
This game is planned to support four players, this way people can co-op inside the game match remembering the old beat'em up games.
1) $120,000 - Mac and Linux versions.
2) $140,000 - IOS and Android versions.
3) $160,000 - One more level for each character before the story begins.
4) $180,000 - IOS and android multiplayer.

Risks and challenges
A project of this magnitude demands the participation of many dedicated individuals. We consider Afterdark the greatest challenge to date for Napalm Studio. We face that challenge with confidence and excitement. Since Afterdark is our first official attempt at creating a video game from conception to creation, it has been essential to gather the necessary team which possesses the appropriate amount of dedication as well as the desired skill-sets to help us reach the quality we are committed to. We have spent many hours, days and months on the development and execution of this project. Additionally, our studio is located in Brazil and this is the first project of its type, in the country, to reach this level in terms of quality. Therefore, finding our "dream team" has been somewhat of a struggle. But, through continued determination and relentless searching, we believe we have finally put together the right mix of talent to get take this "concept" to the next level.
