The only way to give more people a chance all over the world to be able to enjoy and support this comic, is if enough people know about it! And YOU can help to GET THE WORD OUT!
Here's how we do that: RE-TWEET THIS TWEET!
Once we reach a 100 retweets, all backers will also receive DIGITAL WALLPAPERS on top of the current rewards. Delivered upon successful completion of the campaign, of course.
If you ended up here on this Kickstarter page, then you most likely have an interest in either comics, manga, steampunk, robots and adventure... or all of them! These are the ingredients which can all be found in my comic Robocity. Robocity is a one-shot graphic novel which was professionally published in 2015 in Dutch by publisher dark dragon books. It sold out in less than 3 months in it’s first print run and the second one followed not long after. since then I had many non-Dutch speaking people ask me when the comic would be available in English. I had a look around at different publishers based in either the UK or USA, but could not find one were my comic would properly fit in. Luckily in this time and age, self-publishing has never been easier and I was determent to make my comic available to a wider international audience. Since I already have a lot of experience publishing books and projects on my own, I decided to take a chance and create a Kickstarter for the English edition of my comic, Robocity!
Kickstarter is the place were many people come to discover new projects and works. I wanted to use Kickstarter as a way for people who are not yet familiar with me and my work outside of the Netherlands, to discover my comic and for a clear way for them to preorder a copy ( or more ;) ) I have used kickstarter before for my “Zodiac Dreams” artbook project wich got successfully funded and thanks to that project, I learned a lot about how Kickstarter works.
Robocity is an one-shot adventure comic about a young woman engineer named Sophia who, on her way home from a hard day’s work, get’s stuck in the middle of the desert when her motorcycle runs out of fuel. Luckily she find a town nearby. Surely she will be able to find some new fuel there, right? The only problem is....humans are not allowed!
The full title of my comic is; Heartlandstories: Robocity. Heartlandstories is the title of a possible collection of different stories set in the same steampunk world. Each story will be a complete story that does not make it necessary for you to have read the previous ones in order for you to understand them. Robocity is the very first one in this series and is also a one-shot story, which means that you do not need to wait for a next volume to see how the story ends since everything get’s wrapped up nicely within this book. My main art style is heavily influenced by manga ( Japanese comic art) however, even if you do not like manga, this comic is still very accessible. It is in full color and boasts a 108 pages in total which include the main story and a few extra short stories and artwork as well. The comic is enjoyable for all ages and anyone who likes some crazy robots and adventure.
In addition to the book itself, backers can select tiers that offer various other rewards. Check out the tiers below.
Of course the main reward of this kickstarter will be the comic itself. The story, art, coloring and text have all been done by your’s truly, although I did have some extra help from some professional editor friends who made sure that the English text in this comic has been translated correctly for everyone’s reading pleasure :D The English edition of Robocity contains 108 pages wich include the main story, a shorter christmas special story and 3 mini gag comics plus extra artwork, printed as a full color, softcover, A5 size (7x10.5) book.
The physical rewards will also include this fun sticker, A button set and 2 postcards wich will be professionally printed on strong cardstock paper with a pearly finish.
The €50 reward option is the comic including a A5 size pencil drawing illustration depicting the characters from the comic. These pencil drawings will be created during the kickstarter campaign and will also be revealed one by one during this kickstarter. When the kickstarter ends, you will be able to choose your favourite drawing but beware, this is first come first serve so the sooner you claim this reward, the more options you will have. Here you can see the first finished pencil drawings. More will be added here once they are finished by me during this Kickstarter. There will be 10 in total.
The €90 reward option includes an A5 size watercolor commission for you were you can request a drawing of one of the characters from the comic or something else that you would like :)
The €200 reward also includes this cute sticker set of 6 wich show the main characters from my comic. This set is also available as an add-on reward.
A white T-shirt featuring my “Steampunk angel” illustration wich will be included in the €200 Big Pack reward. Made of 100% cotton 185g/qm. Available in men’s and women’s. Sizes available:
Men - S,M,L,XL,XXL,3XL Women: S,M,L,XL,XXL
A note to American/Canadian backers: These are in European sizes. It might be better to take one size bigger than your usual size. for example if you are an M, it might be better to pick an L size.
This T-shirt is also available as an add-on reward
Here's a list of Add-ons including extra copies of the comic ( incl. extra shipping fees) all the goodies AND extra pen sketches that will be drawn in the book, can also be added for an extra fee. You can add these extra's on to your reward by increasing your pledge by the appropriate amount. At the end of the campaign, you can write down which items you have ordered extra in the survey.
The vast majority of funding will go to printing the book and shipping out rewards. What's left will go to producing the other rewards, Kickstarter's fees, and taxes.
I've learned from previous Kickstarters to keep my stretch goals simple, or else risk significant fulfillment delays. Most extra funding will go into printing more books and shipping them out. That said though, should we overshoot our goal, I've also got a couple stretch goals planned. These are mostly going to be extra rewards added on to the existing physical reward tiers.
Risks and challenges
With every project there are possible risks, however since the comic is 100% finished and ready to get printed by a printing company that I have worked with many times before, The amount of risks are quite low. The only real risk are the post delivery services who can sometimes make packages dissapear or get deivered at the wrong house or damage the packages. But because of this, all packages will be shipped safe and secured with track and trace.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
