My story is about an elderly man, Ian, who lives in a large metropolis city. Each morning Ian is delivered a file with top-secret information about cases that have gone cold and have been deemed unsolvable by his employers. His job is to piece the facts together and solve the cases for the authorities. The story gives us the opportunity to follow Ian through four days of his life.
When we see Ian in the film, I will be give the animation a graphic novel look. The imagery will be black and white. with some detailed back-grounds where Ian is only a silhouette.
The film also lets us hear Ian's thoughts as he works on the cases. The animation of his thoughts will have a collage aesthetic. His thoughts are central to the story, because, I created this story around an idea of having flashing text with flowing watercolor over a layer on top of it. This approach will be used as a texture/ matte of the imagery of Ian's thoughts
My process for achieving the aesthetic that I want for "Cases in Ink" involves taking captured footage of my actor and manipulating the image with digital filters and rotoscoping. To do this, I will use different Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Aftereffects, and Illustrator. I will also be using ToonBoom for digital hand drawn elements in the film. To capture the collage imagery of Ian's thoughts I would like to use Dragon Frame with an under camera setup.
