About

 The Stories you've heard...

...they're all true! Towers as tall as mountains, able to shift and change. Imagine having the ability to control these towers, to be......their MASTER

Now imagine the ability to make as many as you want, maybe one for every player at the table, each one unique and customizable . Towers that belong in the world you are playing.

With laser cutting now a reality for many DIYers and crafters, we want to help you take your tabletop games to the next level.

Here at Xykit, we have a passion for both laser cutting and tabletop games. That's why we are presenting these themed, stack-able, reconfigurable dice tower designs to you!

Allow your creativity to run wild and create your own dice towers that suit your gaming needs.

 We are so Excited!!!

Over the past few years, we have dreamed of making a modular dice tower system. We wanted them to have interchangeable parts and be extremely customizable.

Originally, we anticipated building the dice towers as part of our physical product line, but as the designs progressed, we realized that we could offer more flexibility by providing the designs to makers like yourself.

Making the towers yourself allows you more customization. The pieces are all based on the same system, and therefore can be recombined and mixed with other components to make something truly unique!

What do you get?

You will get all the digital files to produce the dice towers shown below.  Over the past several months we have worked up 5 different dice tower designs. These designs include: Tudor Tower, French Provincial,  The Pagoda Tower, The Castle, and The Tower Fort.  All 5 of these towers have been prototyped and tested using 3mm thick baltic birch and are ready for you!

Why Kickstarter? Why Digital Downloads?

Kickstarter is an awesome community of people who love seeing cool new stuff come to life.  We've called upon this awesome community once before, and they helped us bring our Fantasy Boxes into reality.

This time, we want to do things a little differently. As much as we love to make stuff here at Xykit, we love designing new things even more. Offering a digital download accomplishes many things:

  • It helps the creative community have more time to be creative
  • It allows a quicker delivery and fulfillment of your rewards.
  • It allows you to customize every aspect of your dice towers.

The Funds will help us to devote more time to the final steps of this project, such as making .pdf instructions, and designing more components and themes that we hope will get unlocked through this campaign.

Meet The Designer

Hi all, I'm Jason. I'm just a geeky guy with a passion for woodworking and board games.  I'm the creator of "The Dice Tower Project" and owner of Xykit (Zy-kit) my small one man shop where I build stuff and sometimes things. This project and the idea of modular, themed dice towers has been a dream of mine for years now.  I am super excited to offer these files to you and see what you do with them.

What do the laser files look like?

We've set up all of the dice tower files consistently to make it easy to cut on a variety of laser cutting machines. We work from the inside out, to make sure that pieces are cut in the proper order.

We will be offering the files in .svg and .dxf, as these files types are very common across a variety of design and cutting software.  Each tower and applicable stretch goals will be placed into a .zip file that will need to be extracted/unzipped before opening in  your cutting software.

What if you don't own a laser cutter?

We realize that not everyone out there has a laser cutter. However, with the rise in popularity of lasers, there are many places that you can gain access to one: local maker spaces, schools, a friend with a woodworking business, even some libraries now have laser cutters. Or, maybe it's time to take that leap and purchase the laser you've been dreaming about.

There's more where that came from!

We need your help to make this project all that it can be! We've got so many ideas for new pieces and new towers. Backing this project will allow us to design more awesome stuff for you.

What kind of dice tower themes do you want to see? We want to hear, let us know if the comments.

BIG UPDATE!

Hi All, we've been thinking, and we've decided to change the terms of use to allow you to sell the dice towers you make. We've removed the "Commercial Backing" pledge level and are opening this up to everyone.

We are now just offering 2 pledge levels:

  • One Tower Design
  • All the Tower Designs

The NEW TERMS OF USE are as follows:

Xykit grants you the right to sell physical versions of the dice towers (up to 100 towers annually). Any dice towers or pieces sold, must contain the verbiage "Designed by Xykit.com" as already marked on pieces. Any online listings, or in person sales must attribute design credit to xykit.com.  You may sell the towers as a kit(un-assembled) or assembled at your discretion.  All digital files, images, media, and documents belong to Xykit.  With this Kickstarter you will be purchasing a license to use the files to produce physical versions of the dice towers. You are NOT allowed to share, sell, or distribute the files, media, documents, or images. Files may be modified for personal use only. No derivative works can be exhibited or used for commercial purposes.  Xykit makes no warranties in respect to the use, sale, or manufacturing of THE DICE TOWER PROJECT. Product files are sold “As Is”. In no event will Xykit be responsible for the direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages that are in any way related to THE DICE TOWER PROJECT. By backing this Kickstarter, you agree to these terms of use.

If you find that you will have need to sell more than 100 dice towers annually, please message us and we'd be happy to work up a larger scale license with you.

Fulfillment

The great thing about a digital product is that it can be delivered very quickly upon the campaigns completion.  The five starting tower designs: Tudor Tower, French Provincial, The Pagoda Tower, The Tower Fort, and the Castle Tower, are all ready to go. Once the Kickstarter has ended, these files will all be sent out as soon as surveys have been completed and payment from Kickstarter has gone through.  We expect this to be sometime in mid August.

As part of this Kickstarter we want to unlock more stretch goal designs. Several of the starting stretch goals have already been prototyped and tested, however, not all the new designs may be fully completed by the end of the campaign.  We will keep you up to date on the progress throughout, and will continue to send out the additional stretch goal digital files as they are completed. These files will come out in the months following the completion of the kickstarter.

Risks and challenges

This is our second Kickstarter, and I can say that we learned a great deal from running our first campaign. However, this Kickstarter will be different from our first because it will focus on a digital product, not a physical one. Although we don't anticipate any major issues, we do know that technology can be finicky at times, and that managing the digital delivery of goods may present new challenges altogether.

We take great pride in our designs however, and want everyone to be satisfied with these dice tower. We anticipate this Kickstarter will present a greater administrative challenge then our previous campaign.

Laser cutting is becoming more and more accessible and many people are new to the process. With that newness comes many questions. We hope that we will be a valuable resource to all of you who choose to help us make these designs available.
