Treehouse Sanctum - Shake the Shadow
Treehouse Sanctum began when two single parents met on a blind date. The main topic of conversation was their mutual love of creating new #music. Soon thereafter a friendship was born. Fast forward a few months to a jam session at Sam's house when Danya joined and everyone in the room was blown away by her voice. That night during an epic rendition of DeVotchKa's "How it Ends" they harmonized for the first time and a new duo began. With some encouragement from friends, Sam & Danya started writing new songs together, incorporating harmonies and experimenting with tempo changes and foot stomping rhythms. Pretty soon they had a full set list of new original songs written and decided to play their first show.
After some time playing as a duet, they incorporated Dave Villano on violin/bass & Andrew Horwath on cajon/percussion/drums, keeping a roots based folk sound that was once described by a Boston rocker as "Avant-garde, indie dream folk rock." Even with a piano player added, that mouthful remains the musical description of Treehouse Sanctum. And currently, they have been in studio, slowly crafting a very unique & sonorous album, some of which can be heard/downloaded on their website for free: http://treehousesanctum.com.
So that was our history in brief & in 3rd person. We have been funding our own music creation since the bands inception and are now nearing completion of our debut album, Shake the Shadow. We are looking to raise at minimum $1,600 to finish the recording efforts on at least 3 more songs. This figure includes studio/engineering/mastering costs. If we are fortunate enough to not only hit our mark but go over by a bit, we'll add another song to the the 8 we have already completed; for a beefy 12 song debut album. All additional proceeds will be used for packaging, art work and marketing the album online.
We have some awesome prizes for you as part of this project: t-shirts, your own song written & recorded in Sam's home studio, your picture woven into our album artwork, playing your house party, and many more to give away because we know we can't do this without you and want you to be a part of this album with us.
Beyond blessed does not begin to describe how awesome this adventure has been. We are working with some amazing musicians/friends on this album, including: Jon Boland, TD Davis, Christopher J. Bloom, & Ryan Durfee. And did we mention how rad it is to experiment in studios, like the Bloom Room Studio, Silo Sound & our multitalented Dave Villano's studio. Chris Graham has agreed to master this album, check out his mastering service online. We'll be using these houses of sound to complete our album. Our goal is to complete our album before Christmas and have an album release party just after the New Year. We hope you will be able to attend that!
For us, music has been a creative, healing outlet. Whenever possible we love to use our music to serve a higher purpose whether it be through playing a show to support a cause or writing songs about subjects we hope will inspire people. Please take a listen first, then share, tweet, scream out this project from your cubicle...and if you can't support us, please support one of the other incredible projects on this forum, there are some talented, creative nerds out there. Thank you so much!
Risks and challenges
Challenges that may arise include: delays in completing the album due to scheduling conflicts with those who contribute to the album creation.
We will be taking time off our jobs and calling in favors to watch our offspring to complete this album at the conclusion of this KickStarter. We have the studio time reserved, the engineers and musicians all lined up. Funding has been our only real challenge. We hope you listen and if you think what we have created thus far is quality, will help us check a big one off our bucket list.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
